ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2066　26 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0116)　22 October 1950

Information is fairly reliable. PW was cooperative.

14 Jul 50 - PW was forced to join the army and was sent to Officer’s Training School in PYONGYONG.

1 Aug 50 - Commissioned Jr Lt, assigned to the communication company of the 74th Regt, 43rd Div.

25 Sep 50 - 74th Regt moved to HWAYON MYON (화양면).

13 Oct 50 - 74th Regt ordered to battle at YONAN.

18 Oct 50 - PW and 20 men were captured near SARIWON while retreating north.

There were 3 Inf Bns and 6 Ind sub units attached to the 74th Regt. The sub units were, communication Co, sub machine Gun Co, Eng Co, 120 mm cannon Co, 45 mm cannon Co & 76 mm cannon Co. There were about 500 men (total) in the sub units, and about 150 men to an Inf Co in the 3rd Bn.

One 14 drop (Jap made) switch board; 5 telephones (old box type); 50 m telephone wire; 60 sub-machine guns; 3 × 120 mm cannons; 2 × 45 cannons; & 2 × 76 mm cannons.

1 lug 50 - 74th Regt was organized in HAEJU.

26 Sep 50 - 74th Regt was attached to the 19 Div which was organized in HAEJU.

Telephone line was laid from Co Hq to Bn Hq to Regt Hq and to Div Hq. The Regt Comdr & the Div Comdr often talked in Russian and at times Chinėse.

Troop movements were always made at night

74th Regt CO, LEE, Too Ik, Col, age about 30. A graduate of a military staff college in RUSSIA.

Morale of unit was low. Propaganda leaflets were very effective, and demoralized many men in PW’s unit including himself.
