ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2039　25 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0056)　16 October 1950

Information is fairly reliable. PW was cooperative but information was limited. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3 Aug 50 - PW was drafted at SUNCHON (順天)

13 Aug 50 - Assigned to the 46th Independent Tank Regt at SARIWON (沙里院).

27 Aug 50 - PW moved with 3rd Bn to KANGDONG (江東) where PW and his unit built log houses.

6 Sep 50 - 3rd Bn moved to SUKEHON and built log houses for sleeping quarters.

26 Sep 50 - PW moved with 46 Regt to IMJIN River bank.

3 Oct 50 - Retreated to KEJONG (雞井)

11 Oct 50 - PW and 7 members of a squad deserted and hid in the mountain. Surrendered to UN troops after reading propaganda leaflet.

3rd Bn was composed of two automatic rifle companies with a total of about 120 men.

PW saw about 10 tanks and 3 anti-aircraft MG while the 46th Regt was digging emplacements on the NW banks of the IMJIN River. When the Regt retreated, this equipment was all taken with them.

Morale of unit was very low, chiefly because they were forced into the army. PW stated that during train ride from SUNCHON to SARIWON, approximately 300 out of about 1,000 men deserted. They were watched by a guard constantly, even when going to the latrine. PW states all those who have read the propaganda leaflets want to surrender to UN Troops.
