ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1993　24 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0107)　21 October 1950

Information is fairly reliable, PW was cooperative and spoke in detail.

Not recommended for further interrogation.

20 Aug 50 - PW was forced to join the army, and was taken to CHORWON for basic training.

21 Sep 50 - Departed CHORWON and arrived in SEOUL two days later.

23 Sep 50 - PW deserted his unit and voluntarily surrendered with 5 other to the UN Forces on 25 Sep.

25th Brig was composed of: 10 Bns - 4 HMG Bns, 1 Eng Bn, 1 Inf Bn, 1 Recon Bn, 1 Arty Bn, 1 Tank Bn, and 1 Comm Bn. Brig totaled about 5,500 men.

There were 4 - 45mm Cannon and about 7 - 82mm Cannon in the Arty Bn.

3 Light Tanks in the Tank Bn.

2 Telephones in the Comm Bn and about 5 trucks in the Brig.

20 Aug 50 - The 25th Brig was organized in CHORWON with 10 Bns, composed of fresh men forcibly taken from schools, farms and industries. Most of the men were from 16 to 36.

21 Sep 50 - The 25th Brig moved to SEOUL, where they met terrific fire from UN ai and arty and were routed.

Morale of the Unit was very low, due chiefly to forced induction.

Propaganda leaflets were very effective. Those men who read them are only waiting for an opportunity to escape. However, if the officers discover the slightest indication that the men want to desert, they will be shot on the spot. PW believes that, if given the chance, every man wants to either desert his unit and go home.
