2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was not talkative, was of low intelligence and was unable to remember dates. Made several contradictory statements during interrogation. PW was Co clerk and had no detailed knowledge of the movements or duties of his unit.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Mar 50 - Inducted in NKA at NANAM (羅南) assigned to Ministry of Defense Ind 921 Transportation Unit, 1st Bn, 1st Co. Received 2 weeks of dismounted drill.
14 Apr 50 - Departed NANAM with the 921st Trans unit 1st Bn.
17 Aug 50 - Arrived SAMHO (三湖). Trained for one month.
22 May 50 - Arrived P’YONGYANG with the 921st Trans Unit 1st Bn. Personnel were given instruction in automotive maintenance.
28 Jun 50 - Departed P’YONGYANG with the 921st Trans unit 1st Bn (300 men) on 31 trucks.
29 Jul 50 - Arrived SEOUL with the 1st Bn. Five (5) trucks of the Bn were destroyed by aircraft attacks during their travel from SARIWON. The 1st Bn was engaged in transportation of ammo between SEOUL and CHOCH’IWON (鳥政院).
22 Aug 50 - Arrived CHOCH’IWON with the 1st Bn of the 921st Transportation Unit.
29 Aug 50 - Departed CHOCH’IWON.
16 Sep 50 - Arrived TAEJON with 20 trucks. The Bn was engaged in transporting ammo to 10th Div units on the NAKTONG River front. PW stayed in Bn Hq as clerk.
26 Sep 50 - The Bn became disorganized at TAEJON. UN forces had entered CHOCH’IWON and made the retreat of the Bn impossible. There were five (5) trucks left in the Bn at time of disorganization.
28 Sep 50 - Captured by ROK police force at CH’ONGJU (清洲).

Unit Organization and Strength:
The 921st Transportation unit of the Defense Ministry (保衛者) consisted of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn.
The 1st Bn (approx 300 men) consisted of three Cos. Each Co consisted of three plats.
The 1st Bn did not suffer any casualties. There were 300 men in Bn when became disorganized 26 Sep 50.

Equipment:
The Bn captured eleven (11) US made 6 x 6 trucks along the NAKTONG River front. The original trucks which were Russian ZIS and GAZ models were all destroyed and at time the Bn became disorganized, it had only five (5) 6 x 6 trucks.
The transportation Bn had only light arms. They were equipped with 50 x PPsh M1941 SMG and 250 M1891/30 type rifles.
The unit was not equipped with any spare parts of heavy tools.

Disposition:
The 2nd Bn of the 921st Transportation Unit was located at SECH’ON (細川) and the 3rd Bn was located at YONGDONG (永同) as of 26 Sept 50. The 921st Transportation Unit Hdq was located at TAEJON with the 1st Bn but became disorganized on 24 Sep 50, two days before the 1st Bn became disorganized.
Ammunition was transportd from P’YONGYANG to TAEJON by train daily and stored in a dump located in RR tunnel 2 km N of the TAEJON RR station.
The ammunition from the dump was transported by trucks to the front lines by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bns of the 921st Transportation Unit.

Intentions:
The 921st Transportation unit received no instructions on regrouping when the unit was disorganized.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of two third of personnel of the 1st Bn was low due to the defeat of the NKA. The remaining one third of the personnel were members of the North Korean Labor Party and their morale was still high. PW stated that these members had much more influence within the Bn that the non-party member soldiers.

4. GENERAL:
PW heard from a civilian when they arrived at TAEJON on 16 Sep 50 that a large number of US PW’s were shot to death.
Whenever a US truck was captured the US markings and numbers were removed before being used by the NKA.
