2. ASSESSMENT:
Information is fairly reliable, informant was cooperative.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
20 Jul 50 - PW was drafted sent to PYONGYANG where he received 10 days basic training.
15 Aug 50 - PW and 8 others left PYONGYANG and arrived at NAMCHONJOM where PW was attached to the 26th Brig as a supply officer. Stayed there for about 10 days and left for HWACHON.
5 Oct 50 - UN forces invaded HWACHON. PW surrendered willingly.

Unit Organization & Strength:
26th Brig was composed of 8 Bns - 1 Inf Bn, 4 HMG Bns, 1 Eng Bn, 1 120 mm Arty Bn and 1 45 mm Arty Bn. There were about 5000 men in the 26th Brig. There was no equipment whatsoever & very few weapons.

Unit History:
The 26th Brig was organized between 15-18 Aug 50 at NUMCHONJOM, Moved to YONCHON 20 Sep 50 and made its Hq there. Troop movement was carried out at night on mountain trails.
3 Oct - PW observed the 14 Div which was retreating from CHUNCHON area near HWACHON. Left all weapons in HWACHON for the 3rd Bn to use.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale was low due to lack of training, weapons and veteran soldiers.
Propaganda leaflets were effective. Many men felt that there was no alternative except to surrender or die.
