ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1931　23 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0103)　20 October 1950

PW of average intelligence. Information quite reliable.

28 Nov 1946 - volunteered at NANAM, was assigned to the 6th Regt, 2 Div where he received basic training. Became a supply clerk for 4 yrs.

3 Jan 49 - Sent to PYONGYANG officer’s training school for 5 month.

18 Jun 49 - finished school, commissioned a Jr Lt and assigned to the 603 Unit at PYONGYANG as Asst Company Commander.

26 Sep 50 - Deserted unit at CHINJU.

5 Oct 50 - surrendered to the ROK Forces.

603 Unit (Independent Regt) (3,200 men) Believed annihilated at ANUI.

Armored cars, motorcycle, (168) 120 mm arty, 45 mm Arty, submachine gun & Rifles.

The 603 unit is believed to have been organized at PYONGYANG o/a Jun 49. The officers came from various other units and some from officer candidate school. NCO’s came from other units but the EM were all recruits.

The 603 unit is believed to have been an independent mechanized Regt with 7 Bns and with 3 Cos directly attached to the Regt.

The first four Bns and the 4th Bn were mechanized Bns.

Each squad had 12 men and every 3 men were assigned a motorcycle: Two men had sub-machine guns and the 3rd man had a IMG.

5th Bn was the 120 mm Arty Bn.

6th Bn the 45 mm Arty.

7th Bn (mechanized Bn) equipped with IMG on armored cars.
