ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1887　16 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1122)　12 October 1950

Although PW was a Bn CO, he was injured on the first day his unit went into action. Consequently he had no recent tactical information on his unit. PW was cooperative and seemed to be of average intelligence.

25 Jun 45 - Entered. the Japanese Army.

25 Aug 45 - Di~charged from the Japanese Army Pvt 2nd Class.

25 Aug 45 to 1 Dec 46 - Went to teachers college and farmed at home.

1 Dec 46 - Entered the NKA at SINUIJU. Here he receive one yrs training as a private.

15 Dec 47 - Entered the military academy at CHINJI-DONG (眞池洞). Upon graduation commissioned Jr Lt.

12 Dec 48 - Assigned to the 2nd Div in HAMHUNG. He wa·s then a platoon leader.

15 Dec 49 - Promoted to Lt (中尉) and made Co CO

27 Feb 50 - Transferred to SUNCH’ON (順天) to a newly formed youths training camp and promoted to Sr Lt (大尉) and made Bn CO.

1 Jun 50 - The youths training camp was incorporated into the NKA and organized into the 10th Div. Promoted to Capt (總尉).

26 Jun 50 - The 25th Regt of the 10th Div arrived in CHAERYONG (載寧). Received one months training.

27 Jul 50 - Went to SARIWON to await orders.

3 Aug 50 - Boarded train at SARIWON (沙里院).

9 Aug 50 - Detrained at CH'ONAN (天安) since RR traffic was interrupted.

9 Aug 50 - Departed CH'ONAN on foot.

19 Aug 50 - Arrived at a point 8 km N of SONGJU (星州). here they were ordered to go to KORYONG. The 25th Regt was in the area between SONGJU and KORYONG awaiting orders.

29 Aug 50 - Promoted to Maj (少佐).

31 Aug 50 - Regt was ordered to prepare to cross the NAKTONG River E of KORYONG.

1 Sep 50 - The entire Regt could not cross the River because of heavy arty and air barrage, PW was hit by shrapnel in the left hand and in the back anq was hospitalized.

24 Sep 50 - Evacuated to the TAEJON Hospital, but was immediately put on a hospital train bound for SEOUL. At a point 22 km N of TAEJON the train was stopped and patients unloaded as the UN troops had cut the RR. The patients were told to head for SEOUL via CH'ONGJU and CH'UNGJU.

27 Sep 50 - 8 km NE of CH'ONGJU saw UN troops pass by on jeeps, so he decided he did not have much chance of escaping. He surrendered. to SK Police.

Evacuated from his Bn on 1 Sep 50 and could not give any information on present disposition of his unit or what orders they received.

As of 1 Sep 50 the 25th Regt had one 45 nun AT Gun and 7 82 mm Mortar. There were no mortar shells on hand.

PW saw 13 men from the 3rd Div at CH’ONGJU (淸州) on 27 Sep 50. They had no arms and were heading for CH‘UNGJU.

Stated the troops were justified in having low morale, since they were insufficiently trained, and they did not receive artillery and air support as the UN troops received. When the PW's Bn was moving toward KORYONG, the troops saw nothing but injured NKA troops and wrecked NKA equipment which lowered the troops morale.
