ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1873　15 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1141)　13 October 1950

Information contained in this report.was limited to PW's own unit. PW was in MANCHURIA from 39 to Mar 50.

18 Nov 46 - Drafted into the Korean Volunteer Army at HARBIN (哈爾濱), MANCHURIA, and assigned to what was called HARBIN 3rd Unit. He served as a driver until Sep 48. Strength of the unit was estimated to be 1,000.

Sep 48 - Transferred to 46th Corps Hq, CCF, which was stationed at PEI-CHEN (北鎭).

Feb 50 - Mar 50 - During this period Koreans in the CCF were assembled at CHENG-CHOU (鄭州) and left MANCHURIA for North KOREA in separate groups, in what was called 15th Ind Div. Strength of the Div was about 3,000 men.

7 Apr 50 - Arrived at P'YONGYANG with 400 troops.

13 May 50 - Transferred to SINUIJU (新義州) and assigned to 731st AT Gun Bn, 13th Div as an auto mechanic. He heard that the troops of the 15th Ind Div were reassigned to various units in the NKA. He believes that the 15th Ind Div was no longer in existence.

o/a 1 Sep 50 - The 731st AT Gun Bn was deployed in the P’ALGONGSAN (八公山) located 28 km N of T’AEGU (大邱). All the Bn drivers and mechanics, including PW, were at SANGJU (尙州) repairing trucks.

20 Sep 50 - All the drivers and mechanics started a disorderly retreat. The trucks (15) and tools were abandoned.

28 Sep 50 - PW surrendered to the SK local police with a UN Safe Conduct Pass at a point 6 km N of CHECH'ON (堤川).

Actually the 731st AT Gun Bn, 13th Div composed of three batteries, Service Co and Rear Section. Total strength of the Bn was estimated to be 600 men. He stated that majority of the troops were N. Koreans. He believed that the Bn, except the Rear Section, was annihilated in the P'AL GONGSAN as the Bn was completely surrounded and isolated at the time of PW's withdrawal.

Each Btry of the Bn had 4 x 45-mm AT Gun M1937 and 4 trucks, and the rear section of the Bn had one truck.
