2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative. However, he left his unit on 31 Jul 50, to be hospitalized for tuberculosis. Not recommended for further interrogation

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
10 Feb 48 - Inducted into the NKA at HAMHUNG and received 10 months infantry training.
O/a 20 Dec 48 - Transferred to SADONG (寺洞), and received further training. Promoted to Sgt.
O/a 10 May 50 - The infantry troops in training at SADONG were organized into the 603rd Motorized Regt (COde No. 83). Received motorcycle training
17 May 50 - Promoted to Jr Lt.
19 Jun 50 - Promoted to Lt and the 603rd Regt departed SADONG.
O/a 21 Jun 50. - Arrived at a point 23 lan N of the 380 Parallel, N of INJE.
25 Jun 50 - Crossed the 380 Parallel and arrived in HONGCH’ON.
31 Jul 50 - Left his unit to be hospitalized at NAMWON. At this time the 1st Bn, the 45-mm AT Gun Bn, and the Mortar Bn was in NAMWON. Other elements of the 603rd separated at CHONJU.
1 Sep 50 - Transferred to a hospital in CHONJU.
20 Sep 50 - Transferred to the TAEJON Hospital.
25 Sep 50 - Hospital evacuated TAEJON and again set up 16 km W of TAEJON.
27 Sep 50 - The Hospital Staff Started to evacuate when UN troops approached.
28 Sep 50 - PW and 17 other patients. left hospital and walked toward KONGJU. At a point 16 km NW of TAEJON, PW heard that retreat had been cut off. PW surrendered.

The 603rd Motorized Regt consisted of five (5) motorcycle Bn's with 550 to 600 men in each Bn at time of its organization. In addition, there were the following units in the Regt:
Auxiliary Motorcycle Co (267 men)
Medical Co
Signal Co
Engineer Co
45-mm AT Gun Bn (200 men)
120-mm Mortar Bn (200 men)
Truck Co ( 50-60 men)
Service Plt (20 men)
Guard Plt

Composition of a Motorcycle Bn:
Three (3) motorcycle Co's, HM3 Co, 82-mm .Mortan,-Co, Maintenance Plt, and Supply Plt.

Equipment: (as of 10 May 50)
Motorcycles: Each motorcycle Bn had about 150 Soviet made motorcycles with side cars. Each side car carried a PPsh SMG and a 7.62-mm. DP LMG (mounted).
Jeep: In the HMG Co, there were 15 jeeps with 7.62 (M1910) HMG mounted on 12 of the jeeps.
In a 82-mm Mortar Co there were 15 jeeps used to carry the mortars.
Arty Bn: 12 x 45-mm AT Gun
12 x 120-mm Mortar
The 5th Motorcycle Bn remained in SADONG (寺洞) when the 603rd moved south. It had about 300 motorcycles and 300 men, and was to be kept in reserve. However, PW later heard that the 5th Bn was later expanded into a Tank Brigade. He heard that the 16th Armored Brigade in the T'AEGU Sector was formed with former members of the 5th Bn as its cadre.

Disposition:
Although PW left the 603rd Regt on 31 Jul 50, he heard o/a 10 Sep 50, that the Regt had abandoned its vehicles and was fighting as infantry in the MASAN Area.

4. GENERAL:
Mission of the Unit was to support infantry troops by providing heavy automatic fire. It was supposed to be used in city, street fighting, however, it was not suited for fighting in KOREA because it was highly vulnerable to air attack, and unsuited for infantry support in rugged terrain.
The unit received its training under Russian supervision, However, when the Regt crossed the 38° Parallel, the Russians left.
