ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1854　13 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADV ECH ATIS - 0032)　11 October 1950

Information is fairly reliable, however the informant had no schooling.

PW deserted his unit when it left KAESONG.

Conscripted into the army 29 Sep 48, at PYONGYANG. Had 6 days of basic training. 15 Nov 48 to 10 May 49, PW was assigned to 3rd Div Hosp in PYONGYANG as a general laborer.

15 May 49 - 18 Jul 50, PW did medical work at a Democratic youth league training center in NAJIN.

25 Jul 50, PW was sent to 19 Div, 2 Regt, 2 Bn, 2 Co, 3rd Plt located in PYONGNUM, SUK CHONG as a rifleman. Received adv military training there.

27 Sep 50, PW with the 2nd Bn left PYONGNUM and arrived at KAESONG 3 Oct 50.

45 nun arty - 2; 45 mm mortar - (Number own); Rifles - 300 to a Bn (estimate); Auto MG - 3 to a Plt;. Hand Grenades - 2 per person.

The 19th Div was organized o/a Jun 50 at SUKCHONG. 27 Sep 50, 19th Div moved to KAESONG. This unit was made up mostly of new inductees.

The officers were old timers, former units unknown.

2nd Regt CO KIM, San Hwan, Lt Col. The 19th Division commander was a Maj Gen.

Morale of unit was low since majority had no interest in war, furthermore they were forcefully inducted.

No propaganda leaflets were observed by PW.
