ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative. Information limited mainly to supply aspects of Med Bn.

T/O & E AMD STRENGTH OF: I Corps, 4th Div, Medical Bn. Units (as of 25 Sep 50).
Medical Battalion composed of a Supply Section, Surgical Section, Minor Wounds Section, Litter-Bearers’ Section, plus Bed Assignment & Supervision Section. Total personnel approx 200 officers and men.

LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
On 25 Sep 50, the Medical Battalion C.O. ordered all personnel under his command to move from KOCHANG to SEOUL, taking as much equipment with them as possible. Route to be taken was the highway to SEOUL via TAEJON, CHOCH'IWON, and SUWON.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 19 Sep 48, at NANAM, into the 2nd Division Headquarters, Supply Section.
Departed NANAM during Sep 49, for let Military Officers Academy (OCS) located at TAEAN NI (Approx 10 Km west of PYONGYANG on the PYONGYANG - CHINNAMPO RR Line).
Graduated Jan 50, and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with approximately 80 other candidates.
Arrived CHINNAMPO in Jan 50, assigned to the 4th Div, Medical Bn, Supply Section. Promoted to Captain in Feb 50.
Departed CHINNAMPO on 15 Jun 50, with the 4th Division, arrived KOCH’ANG o/a 2 Aug 50.
When the Medical Battalion started to withdraw from KOCHANG to SEOUL on 25 Sep 50, PW remained behind with 3 EM to load approx 816 lbs of rice onto an ox-cart.

REPLACEMENTS:
Two South Korean civilian doctors and 8 South Korean nurses were conscripted at SEOUL by the Battalion o/a 6 Jul 50. Both doctors were commissioned as Sr Captains and the nurses were given NCO ranks.

MORALE:
Because personnel in the Medical Battalion realized that the NKA was losing, morale in the Battalion was low. However, the personnel did not often complain, because they feared the "Cultural" Officers and other North Korean Labor (Communist) Party members in the Battalion.

US POW’s:
Observed 10 US PW's marching down a street in SUWON during Jul 50. PW heard that they were on their way to SEOUL.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Observed a UN leaflet dropped at HYOPCHON during Sep 50, telling about the UN occupation of INCHON,
