ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1826　12 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1071)　8 October 1950

PW was very observant and possessed a good memory. He is of a higher than average calibre and very ambitious to continue with his automotive work. PW was very cooperative and gave all information unhesitatingly.

Enlisted in the NKA due to the fact that his father was employed by the Japanese Government and the entire family was not treated as citizens of North KOREA.

Not recommended for further interrogation.

12 Aug 48 - Volunteered into the NKA in HOERYONG (會寧) Assigned to 2nd Sqd, 2nd Plt, 9th Co, 3rd Bn, 4th Regt, 2nd Div, as an infantryman. Received training for 20 days.

1 Sep 50 - PW and 5 others were selected from 9th Co, 2nd Div as truck drivers and transferred to Transportation Co, 2nd Div in NANAM (羅南). He drove the ZIS-5 truck.

26 Jul 49 - The 4th and 6th Regts, 2nd Div were transferred to HAMHUNG (咸興) and the 5th Regt, 2nd Div to P'YONGYANG. PW drove truck for 2 months for Regtl Supply.

3 Aug 49 - Promoted to Cpl. Three months later he was promoted to Jr Sgt. 29 Jul 50, he was promoted to Sgt.

28 Jul 50 - 4th, 6th and 17th Regt's, 2nd Div engaged in a battle at CHINCH’ON (鎭村).

1 Sep 50 - 2nd Div arrived in SINBAN-Ni (新反里). The 4th Div, 9th Div, 6th Div, 105th Armored Div and 16th Armored Brigade were also in this area.

15 Sep 50 - PW was commissioned Sr Lt as a transportation officer of Transportation Co, 2nd Div. He dispatched vehicles for supply runs. PW dispatched trucks to KUMCH'ON for ammunition and food. 7 trucks left.

23 Sep 50 - 2nd Div withdrew to HYOPCH’ON (陜川). 4 trucks were dispatched to KUMCH'ON for supplies. Used 3 remaining trucks for retreat and came back for ammunition that was left in SINBAN-Ni.

24 Sep 50 - Moved to MYOSAN (妙山), 12 km NE of HYOPOH’ON. 18 trucks were expected to be delivered to 2nd Div at MYOSAN from SEOUL. Enroute 3 trucks were damaged and 15 arrived. The trucks were distributed as follows: 4 trucks to Arty Regt, 3 trucks to 45-mm AT Gun Bn, 5 trucks to Transportation Co.

The Transportation Co, 2nd Div now had a total of 12 trucks. In KUMCH’ON they lost 4. Used 8 remaining trucks for transporting equipment and supplies.

25 Sep 50 - In KOCH'ANG (居昌), UN Forces were holding positions along the highway with tanks blocking the escape route. PW and his men hid the a vehicles in the hills and retreated via mountain trail to POUN (報恩).

2 Oct 50 - Travelled 12 km SW of POUN and entered TO-I-Ri (桃李里) where 3 men from Transportation Co, 2nd Div surrendered to ROK 15th Regt.

Supply Officer - LEE, Yong Nam (李永南); Sr Col (總佐)

Intention was to retreat to TAEJON. PW feels that the entire 2nd Div is disorganized.
