2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and fairly intelligent. However, his information was limited due to his short military service. Information may be considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
8 Jul 50 - PW was inducted at P'YONGYANG. Assigned to the Telephone Co, Staff Bn, 2nd Signal Regt, Ministry of Defense. The 2nd Signal Regt was organized o/a 28 Jun 50.
21 Jul 50 - Commissioned Jr Lt, because of his knowledge of signal equipment.
28 Jul 50 - Transferred to the 72nd Ind Inf Regt in CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦), and took command of the Telephone Plat, Signal Co. PW trained his plat for about 10 days in how to string telephone wire and repair of telephones.
O/a 10 Aug 50 - Departed CHINNAMP'O by train.
O/a 14 Aug 50 - Regt arrived SEOUL; from here, marched south.
O/a 31 Aug 50 - Regt via P'YONGTAEK (平澤), TAEJON, I-Ri (裡里), KWANGJU (光州) arrived NAMP'YONG (南平).
The 1st Rifle Bn, 72nd Rcgt was sent to HWASUN (和順) and the 3rd Rifle Bn to NAJU (羅州).
The 2nd Rifle Bn and all supporting units of the Regt remained at NAMP'YONG (南平).
PW trained his platoon until 25 Sep 50, Training was held during the nights because of the UN aircraft bombing.
26 Sep 50 - The 2nd Rifle Bn was ordered to KUNSAN (郡山) and the 3rd Rifle Bn to MOKP'O (木浦). The 1st Rifle Bn and all supporting units of the Regt were ordered to TAEJON. Supporting units departed NAMP'YONG 3 hours after the 1st Rifle Bn had departed. The supporting units did not march together to avoid detection from the air.
29 Sep 50 - The Telephone Plt (35 men) reached YOSAN (礪山) (1000-1460) via SAGA-Ri (四街里) and I-Ri (裡里). The 1st Rifle on was somewhere N of YOSAN at this time Rest of the supporting units were also somewhere N of YOSAN. The Telephone Plat was the last to reach YOSAN.
The Telephone Plt encountered US troops while they were resting here, and about 20 men including PW were captured. Remaining men in the Telephone Plt escaped to the E through the mountains.

Note: The Signal Co operated only between the Regtl Hqs and Bn hqs. Each Bn had its own Signal Plat for communicating with its CO’s.

Unit History:
PW believes that the 72nd Ind Inf Regt was organized in the latter part of Jun 50, and had not engaged in combat as of 26 Sep 50. PW's Plat was separated from the other units since 26 Sep 50, therefore present composition of the Regt is unknown.
The Regt received its orders from a Brigade Hq (designation unknown) in KWANGJU.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops was very low. The troops had only about 1 month of training. Many people were secretly listening to foreign broadcasts (mostly in SEOUL).

4. GENERAL:
Prisoner of War Information:
PW heard from a North Korean officer there were approx 500 US PsW interned in the former Japanese Army. Bar racks (present Defense Ministry) at P'YONGCH'ON-Ni (平川里), P'YONGYANG. PW heard that each prisoner was receiving 700 grams of rice, and unknown amount of meat and eggs per day. PW also heard that they were receiving good treatment.
