ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1812　12 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1094)　10 October 1950

The PW was of average intelligence, cooperative and extremely talkative. His memory was exceptionally good.

Not recommended for further interrogation.

1 Nov 45 - Inducted into National Defense Corps. PW received 2 month military training.

1 Feb 46 - Transferred to KILCHU (吉州). Peace Preservation Unit where PW became squad leader.

28 Jan 48 - Transferred to Security Bureau’s Cavalry Squadron and promoted to Sr Sgt (上士).

15 Dec 48 - Selected to attend 1st OCS.

2 Oct 49 - Graduated with 3rd graduating class (after 10 months training).

5 Oct 49 - Assigned as Plt Ldr to 1st Co, 1st Bn, 7th Brigade, Security Unit in SIBYON-NI (市邊里).

29 Jul 50 - 7th Brigade formally incorporated into NKA and designated 7th Div. PW’s unit, 1st Bn, 7th Brigade in SOSNA (瑞山) designated 1st Bn, 2nd Regt, 7th Div. PW promoted to Sr Lt and assigned 1st Co Commander.

15 Aug 50 - 1st Bn, 2nd Regt, 7th Div departed SOSAN.

27 Aug 50 - Arrived at YOSU (麗水) on Aug 50, 1st Regt, 7th Div transferred to MOKP’O (木浦) and 2nd Regt, 7th Div to KWANGJU (光州). 7th Div hqs moved to UIRONG (宜寧).

1 Sep 50 - 1st Bn, 2nd Regt, received orders to take up defensive positions at UIRYONG. Upon arrival, 2nd Regt could not be 1ocated.

3 Sep 50 - While seeking whereabouts of 2nd Regt, 1st Bn encountered the enemy, the 1st Co receiving the brunt of the attack. In the withdrawal, 1st Co scattered. PW and several others escaped and went to Div Hqs. PW learned locations of 2nd Regt and 3rd Regt.

14 Sep 50 - Rejoined 2nd Regt. Only 1/3 of 2nd and 3rd Regt remained.

15 Sep 50 - 2nd Regt and elements of 3rd Regt received withdrawal orders.

21 Sep 50 - PW was wounded. Hospitalized at Div hospital for 3 days.

23 Sep 50 - Enroute to ⅠCorps Hospital near CHINJU (晉州), PW learned CHINJIU was already in enemy hands. PW and others took to hills. Enroute to ANUI (安義), others deserted PW as he could not walk.

6 Oct 50 - 4 km S of ANUI, PW captured by American troops.

According to hearsay, bacame Operations Officer, 7th Div on 5 Sep 50, and later CO, 3rd Regt, 7th Div when foremer CO wounded and hospitalized.

Graduated Japanese University (hearsay). Prior to Sep 49, was with Ind Brigade, Ministry of Internal Affairs and was executive officer (asst superintendent) of Internal Affairs. Ministry’s Peace Preservation Staff School (內務省保安幹部學校), in YONGSONG (龍成), commonly referred to as YONGSAN Staff School. Became C/s, 7th Brigade in Sep 49, and promoted to Maj Gen. Promoted to present position o/a 10 Jul 50.

According to a 6th Div officer casualty on 24 Sep 50, remnants of the 7th Div, numbering several hundred, or maybe a thousand were observed heading in the direction of CHIRI-SAN (智異山) (Mt) and TOKYU-SAN (Mt) from UIRYONG (宜寧) Sector.

As of 22 Sep 50, he estimated the entire 7th Div strength at 3,000 to 3,500.

At a point several km S of ANUI (安義), on 6 Oct 50, he was told that retreating NKA troops cleaned the community of its rice or the equivalent of 20,000 meals. It was the PW’s opinion that these troops were the remnants of the 7th Div and maybe some from the 6th Division.
