ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1810　12 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1093)　10 October 1950

PW a member of Labor Party, North Korea. Deserted unit 2 km east of YONGDONG (1070-1470) as result of reprimand from senior officer and threat of court-martial after unit’s withdrawal to North Korea. PW appeared to be intelligent and was cooperative. Considered reliable by interrogator.

3 Jan 46- Volunteered for P’YONGYANG Special Guard Unit, P’YONGYANG Received 3 months military training, P’YONGYANG (Military) Academy, P’YONGYANG.

30 Mar 46 - Training interrupted. PW promoted to Sgt (Sqd Ldr). Assigned to P’YONGYANG Special Guard Unit P’YONGYANG. Promotions to date as follow:

8 Jun 46 - Promoted to Jr Lt (Plt Ldr), T’ONGCH’ON SECURITY UNIT, T’ONGCH’ON (通川).

2 Feb 48 - Promoted to Lt (S-3 Officer), Security Unitm 9th Bn, CH’ORWON (鐵原).

Jan 49 - Promoted to Sr Lt (Operations Officer) 1st Constabulary Brigade, 1st Bn, YONCHON (漣川).

2 Aug 49 - Promoted to Capt (Chief of Staff), 1st Bn.

Nove 49 - 18 Apr 50 - Attended P’YONGYANG 1st Officers Training School, P’YONGYANG.

20 Apr 50 - Promoted to Maj (Chief of Staff) 7th Brigade, 1st Bn, YONGBUK (永北) (28 km south of KUMHWA (金化) (No relation between 7th brigade and 7th Div which later engaged in combat against ROK Army Units in P’OHANG-DONG (浦項洞) ANDONG (安東) Area).

18 Jul 50 - Orders received (hearsay - directly from NKA Field GHQ, SEOUL) for re-organization of 7th brigade to Div Strength, CH’ONAN (天安).

o/a 30 Jul - Re-organization competed KWANGJU (光州).

7th Brigade re-designated 7th Div. 500 poorly trained, armed South Koreans from occupied areas conscripted during reorganization period. Total strength 7th Div, KWANGJU, 12,000.

o/a 5-20 Aug - former Mission School for Girls, KWANGJU (光州).

24 Aug - 25 Sep - village huts 2 km East of CHUNGGYO-Ri (中橋里).

25 Sep - General withdrawal ordered by Hq 7th Div (Lost wireless contact with ⅠCoprs Hq, HYOPC’ON (陜川) Area).

30 Sep - Southeast of KOCH’ANG, Hq 7th Div received orders form ⅠCorps Hq, through 6th Div wireless, to proceed to CH’ONGSAN (靑山).

o/a 2 Oct - 7th Div Units (see weapons and Personnel) assembled in area 15 km southeast of MUJU (茂朱). (Hearsay 1000 stragglers, 7th Div, withdrawing from rear areas). 7th Div units left on foot for CHONG-SAN, same day.

5 Oct - PW deserted unit 2 km southeast of YONGPONG (1070-1470).

6 0700 Oct - PW surrendered to ROK Police 2km southeast of YONGDONG. Turned over by police to US Army Unit.
