ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1785　12 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1066)　7 October 1950

PW appeared to be of average intelligence, but did not seem to be too observant. No further interrogation recommended.

6 Sep 49: Drifted into the NAK at SINUIJU (新義州). Assigned to PYONGAN PUKTO (平安北道) Security Unit and received three months infantry basic training. The unit strength was 700.

Dec 49-19 Apr 50: The unit patrolled the P’YONGAN PUKTO border.

20 Apr 50: Entered #2 Officer Candidate School at P’YONGYANG.

30 Jun 50: Graduated from school and commissioned Jr Lt (少尉). Returned to the P’YONGAN PUKTO Security Unit.

17 Jul 50: Arrived SEOUL by train with 35 other officers and was reassigned to 9th Bn, 10th RR Security Brig which was being activated at this time.

20 Jul 50: The 9th Bn departed for TAEGU (大邱) to guard RR line between TAEGU and PUSAN.

3 Aug 50: Arrived at a point 16 km N of ANDONG (安東) on foot.

6 Aug 50: The original plan was changed. Now were to guard RR line between KUHAK (九鶴) and ANDONG (安東).

17 Aug 50: Arrived CHECH’ON (堤川) and established Bn Hq. Troops of the 9th Bn guarded the RR line between KUHAK and ANDONG for about twenty days.

7 Sep 50: Received orders to guard RR line between T’AM-NI (㙮里) and PUSAN JUN (釜山鎭). The Bn Hq was to be established at KYONGJU (慶州).

8 Sep 50: Departed for KYONGJU on foot.

20 Sep 50: Arrived TANCH’ON (丹村) but could not advance to the designated place KYONGJU as an area 16 km S of T’AM-NI was already occupied by the ROK Army.

20 Sep 50-27 Sep 50: Engaged in guarding the RR line between TANCH’ON and T’AM-NI.

28 Sep 50: Started to retreat toward the N as ROK Army moved into UISONG. Bn was to reassemble at WONJU (原州).

2 Oct 50: Captured by ROK troops at a point 8 km N of WONJU.

The 10th RR Security Brig was composed of twelve (12) Bns with 750 men in each Bn. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Bns were in N KOREA guarding the RR lines there. The remaining nine Bns, which were activated at SEOUL Jul 50, were in S KOREA. PW stated that the Bns activated at SEOUL were all South Korean “Volunteers” except NCOs and officers.

In addition to the above twelve Bns, Communication Co (130 men), Security Co (130 men) and Transportation Plt (150 men) were directly attached to the Brig Hq. There was a Security Platoon (21 men) and a Transportation Plt (20) directly attached to each Bn. As of 9 Sep 50, the Bn suffered total of twenty casualties.
