Communication:
Communication equipment for 6th Div consisted of LBEM (P6) LSEBE (PC6) and field telephones.
LBEM transmitter had 3 Pentrode tubes. Receiver had 5 Pentrode and 1 CBE 242 (C6242) tube. Listening device was ear phones. Utilized 2 types of antenna. 1.8 meter antenna (horizontal for 30-40 miles transmission. 34 meter antenna (vertical) for 100-110 miles transmission. Used voice and CW (key).
Electromotive Force (EMF) was 2.5V A-battery and a 80V B-battery for receiving and 220V for transmission. Fro transmission three 80V B-batteries were connected in series with off and on switches to vary the voltage for receiving and transmission.
LSEBE (PC6) - 3 Pentrode tubes for transmission. 7 Pentrode tubes for receiving. Mounted on trucks with generators. Used 3 sizes of antennas. 4 meter antenna, 7 meter antenna and 10 meter antenna (all vertical). Transmission range up to 270 miles using 10 meter antenna. Tubes are not interchangeable. Power supply is 7 V dry cell battery for filament and 750 V generator for B-battery power supply.
Replacement parts, especially tubes, were carried with the equipment, manufactured in RUSSIA. The transceiver is given periodic inspections. Frequency is calibrated from 2500 KG - 5000 KG. PW was able to receive 18 words per minutes of 6 letter random code and transmit twenty five 5 letter random code.

Effectiveness:
Training and Experience of Personnel:
PW learned about radio-transceiver in JAPAN. He was taught electricity, operation, and maintenance. As a radio operator he was very efficient. Most of the personnel in 2nd Co of Sig Bn were communication NCOs with considerable training. 1st Co, Signal Bn was a training company. After serving in it for one year, personnel were transferred to the 2nd Co.

Morale:
When PW came back to N KOREA from MANCHURIA, he had a feeling that NKPA was preparing for the war with the ROK. He wanted to leave the army but feared that his family would be harmed and it would endanger his life. The reason he did not have any desire to be in the NKPA was that his brother, KIM, Chae Yun (金載潤) who was a Capt at that time in the NKPA was shot and killed by his own men. The NKPA suspected that his brother was revealing secrets to the ROK Army. Since the day he was transferred to the Signal Bn, 6th Div from the Chinese 8th Route Army, PW's morale was low. He did not have any future in the NKPA as he was not permitted to go to any specialized school nor had he any chance of promotion. He also has a brother in the ROK Army with the rank of Lt.
