ASSESSMENT:
PW cooperative, but limited info due to brief military service.

T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
The 104th Regt was composed of the 1st, 14th, 21st and 23rd Battalions.
The 23rd Bn was composed of 3 x rifle companies, a HMG Co, and a Mortar Co.

23rd Bn total approx 600 men. Approx 15% of troops with 23rd Bn were armed. Only small arms originally with the unit.
(Unit (23rd Bn) disbanded after 24 Sep 50. All equipment lost in flight at CHINJU.)

LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
The mission of the 104th Regiment was security of captured villages SE of CHINJU. On 24 Sep 50, the 104th Regt was disbanded and the troops were left to their own accord. Majority of the troops individually decided to head north through SOPAEK Mt Range (小白山脈) to TAEPAEK Mt Range (太白山脈) to NORTH KOREA.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 21 Jul 50 at SEOUL. PW commissioned as Jr Lt upon induction. 104th Regt, 23rd Bn, was organized at SEOUL on 25 Jul 50, arrived CHINJU 10 Aug 50.
23rd Bn conscripted South Koreans in CHINJU area to bring unit up to T/O strength during the period from 10 Aug 50 to 15 Aug 50.
23rd Bn performed duty, guarding villages in KOSONG Area Aug 50 to Sep 50.

Observed on 27 Jul 50, approx 50 American PW's on train heading north from SUWON.
Hearsay: PW's will be sent to P'YONGYANG. From P'YONGYANG, the PW's will be sent further north to area near the Manchurian Border.
 PW heard that US PW's were to be sent to KYUNGHON GUN (慶興郡地方).
