ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1713　9 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1011)　3 October 1950

Prior to induction PW was a member of the N Korean Youth Organization. He was cooperative and tried to be helpful, Information limited to PW's own unit. Not recommended for further in terrogation,

22 May 49: Drafted in the NPA at WONSAN (元山) and assigned to the 2nd Co, 1st Bn, 2nd Regt, 1st Div. Remained with this unit until 30 May 50. Here he received infantry basic training for 1½ months. The remaining period was spent as clerk of the 2nd Co. When he left WONSAN, he had the rank of Sgt (中士).

1 Jun 50: Hospitalized for typhoid fever.

26 Jul 50: Discharged from the hospital and arrived at P‘YONGYANG (　　) by rail.

30 Jul 50: Reassigned to the Command plt, 2nd Btry, 1st Ind AA Bn as a replacement, Promoted to Jr Lt (小尉) and appointed plt ldr. Heard from a security force soldier at P’YONGYANG that the other elements of the 1st Ind M on were at SEOUL. He also heard that the Bn suffered heavy casualties when it crossed the 38th parallel. Command Plt was reorganized with conscripts who were drafted at P’YONGYANG.

3 Aug 50: PIN Command Pit together with C/S of the Ind A Bn arrived at SEOUL by rail and rejoined the Bn.

12 lug 50: The Bn arrived at KUMCH’ON (金泉) by truck via SUWON (水原), P'YONGTAEK (平澤), CH‘ONAN (天安), CHOCH’IWON, TAEJON and YONGDONG (永同).

15 Aug 50 - 27 Aug 50: The Bn engaged in action in the KUMCH'ON Area. Casualties were 20 WIA and 5 KIA. 2 x 76mm AA guns, 20 x PPsh SMG's and 5 x Russian carbines were destroyed.

1 Sep 50: The Bn advanced 3 km S of SINBAN-NI (新反里). Due to frequent air attacks and heavy artillery fire, the Bn hid on a nearby mountain for 20 days. Only one (1) 76mm AA gun was bombed by aircraft.

28 Sep 50: Retreated 12 km E of CHONGJU (淸州) via KORYONG (高靈), MUJU (茂州) and TAEJON. When he arrived here the area was already occupied by ROK units, therefore he surrendered with a UN Safe Conduct leaflet. Since the Bn had retreated one day earlier its disposition was unknown,

The Bn was composed of three (3) AA gun Btrys, a Supply pit (25 mon), Command Pit (30 men) and Medical Section (8 men). Actual strength of the Bn was estimated at 300 of which about 60 were trained veterans of the NKPA. No s Koreans were included in the Bn, The Bn had 150 men at the time of retreat (20 Sep 50).
