2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was of average intelligence, very cooperative but not very well informed. He was in good mental and physical condition.
Reliability - fair. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
30 Jul 50: Enlisted in the SECURITY FORCE at PYONGYANG.
30 Jul 50 - 5 Aug 50: Received uniform and underwent a brief background investigation. Approx 280 men enlisted and were processed. None of the men had previous military experience but were appointed Jr Lts.
6 Aug 50: 280 Jr Lts arrived SEOUL and reported to the Central Hqs of the Security Forces. PW and 19 other Jr Lt were assigned to the 2nd Security Brigade. Assignment of other officers unknown.
9 Aug 50: PM and 19 other Jr Lts arrived TAEJON and reported to the Hqs 2nd Brigade. PW and one other Jr Lt were assigned to the 102nd Security Regt which was then stationed in CHONJU. Disposition or designation of other units of the 2nd Security Brigade unknown.
18 Aug 50 - 27 Sep 50: PW remained at CHONJU. Upon arrival at Hqs 102nd Security Regt, assigned as regt'l supply officer. Disposition of the 102nd Security Regt was as follows:

The primary mission of the 102nd Security Regt was the maintenance of Security within CHOLLA.
To accomplish this mission, each battalion dispatched a series of patrols of plt and Co strength throughout the province every six days. Each Bn had about 15 bicycles, l jeep and 2 trucks. The purpose of the patrols was to rid the area of ROK guerrilla units and former ROK police and military personnel. All personnel of the above categories who were apprehended by the patrols, were sent to the branch office of the Internal Security Department (Police) in CHONJU. The men were given indoctrination courses for 3 to 7 days and released.
The guerrilla detachment did not have a specified mission. The members of this unit had engaged in guerrilla warfare in the area prior to the outbreak of the war and with the subsequent occupation by the NKPA, were attached to the 102nd Security Regt. Regt'l supplies, rations excepted, were obtained from the Brigade Supply Depot in TAEJON. All rations were procured locally. The initial issue of ammunition remained unused. Each rifleman had 30 rounds of ammunition. Regt'l supply had enough ammunition to issue each man an additional 30 rounds.
27 Sep 50: 102nd Security Regt was ordered into CHIRI-SAN. Location in CHIRI-SAN unknown. On this date, PW was left behind in the confusion and was captured by ROK forces.

b. Organization:
The Cadre of the 102nd Security Regt was organized in NANAM, date unknown, and arrived at CHONJU on 10 Aug 50. Men between the ages of 16 and 37 were recruited and absorbed into the organization. All were willing fighters and their ideology would make them good-guerrilla fighters.

c. Morale:
Morale of the troops has been lowered considerably by the advances of the UN forces but the men were very obedient to orders. The men had little or no military training but this did not seem to affect their morale.

4. GENERAL:
A. NK Currency Information:
1. Rate of Exchange: 1.8, 1 NK Won to 8 ROK Won.
2. Extent of Usage: (as of Aug 50) The people of N KOREA had confidence in their currency.
3. Prices: 1.9 quarts of rice = 30 Won. 1.9 quarts Soy Sauce = 29 Won.
B. Red Cross Insignia: NKPA hospital vehicles had insignia painted on the side and on the rear doors. Aid men wore arm bands on their left arms.
