10 Aug 50 - Inducted at CHORWON (鐵原) and attached to HMG Co, Tank Bn, 25th Brig.

1 Sep 50 - Transferred to Supply Plt, 25th Brig.

17 Sep 50 - Entire 25th Brig departed for SEOUL.

21 Sep 50 - Brig arrived SEOUL, stationed at KEIKI MIDDLE SCHOOL.

25 Sep 50 - PW deserted his plt and escaped to UIJONGBU (議政府).

4 Oct 50 - Surrendered to 7th Marines.

Before induction, PW lived at SOGURI (소구리), 186, WONSAN (元山) from Nov 48 - Feb 50, and at PYONG YANG (平壤) from Feb 50 - Aug 50.

Area No. 1 (see sketch) was a beach and picnic area extending from SONGJUNG NI (新村里) to the Naval Base at NW WONSAN. The beach is approx 20m wide and 500m long, the sand is firm and the area is dotted with pine trees.

A pier 30-40m in length extended into the sea from a point near the mouth of the SIMPOCHON (신포청) River at SONGJUNG NI.

The road that parallels the beach has hard dirt surface and is accessible for motor vehicles from the beach. It is no more than 2m above sea level, is 5m wide, has no drainage and is in good condition. The area was not used by civilians since the summer of 49.

There were summer homes along the beach and bomb shelters were built in this area after the outbreak of hostilities.

The bottom of the ocean slopes gradually fro the shore for about 5m and then drops abruptly.

Area No. 2 is the Naval Base area and is off-limits to civilians. On 18 Aug 50, there were 400-500 personnel and 3 small patrol boats stationed here. Prior to the large scale UN air raids, beginning 6 Jul 50, 3,000-4,000 men were stationed here but they were dispersed in small groups from MUNPYON NI (문편리) to KOJO (고주) and the number had been increased to about 10,000.

18 Aug 50, Russian freighters were observed entering and leaving the Naval piers. The shoreline in this area is built up of concrete.

Area No. 3 is the fishing wharf, about 400 m in length. This area too, is built up and the difference between land and sea level is about 1m.

The peninsula area was observed from a second story window from the vicinity of the fishing wharf.

There were low hills on the tip of the peninsula with the road running along the shore, the airfield, low rolling hills to the S and W and a few houses near the juncture of the peninsula and the mainland being visible. The shoreline road was being used by military vehicles.

The airfield and its immediate vicinity appeared to be only slightly higher than sea level and the area from the base of the peninsula extending N for a distance of about 400 m was flat. Beyond this point, the land is broken up by low hills.

The peninsula was also viewed from NAMSAN (南山), where source fled to escape an air attack on 9 Aug 50. From here, he observed AA batteries located at the oil refinery (4 guns) and a battery near the RR station which had been knocked out by UN planes.

7-8 dummy planes were seen on the airfield during the raid.

The E coast of the peninsula was not clearly visible and details of terrain were not discernible. However, source states that the elevations of the entire central section of the peninsula is only a few meters above sea level.

Source viewed some trenches in the hills extending from AMBYON (암병) to MUNCHON (文川) manned by small squads and platoons and from observation and hearsay, he estimates that there were approx 25,000 to 30,000 army troops, in addition to the 10,000 Naval Personnel, so dispersed in this area prior to 18 Aug 50.

90 percent of the population of WONSAN had evacuated the city by 18 Aug 50. The oil refinery and the shipyard had ceased operations and only small enterprises continued working. The power plant at MUNPYON NI (문편리) was in operation.
