1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KIM, Yong Mo
PW NO: 3209
RANK: Lt Col AGE : 25
DUTY: Staff Officer 107th Inf Regt Hq
UNIT: 107th Inf Regt and Guard Unit Hq
PLACE OF CAPTURE: SEOUL, CHONG YON LEE
DATE OF CAPTURE: 26 Sep 50

INTERROGATED BY: CPL HAMASU

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW worked in MANCHURIAN Transport Co from Sept 43 to Oct 44 in ANDONG, MANCHURIA. PW and Lt Col CHEY, Hong (Commander of 107th Inf Regt) were arrested for stalling for time at INCHON and was imprisoned in SEOUL. When SEOUL fell he was taken prisoner by UN Forces. Information may be considered fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
April 46 volunteered for NK Army. Received basic training for 3 months at SINUIJU after which he was assigned to the Border Patrol of that city.
Nov 47. Received commission and was assigned to the Ministry of Interior. At this time the NK Guard was organized in PYONGYANG. 23 July 50 PW was assigned to the Guard Unit in SEOUL. 17 Sept 50 was ordered to join the 107th Inf Regt as temporary Chief of Staff.

Unit Organization and Strength:
There were about 8 Battalions of Guard Units about the 38° Parallel. Before the war, there were three (3) Battalion Hqs located in KUMCHON, YONCHON and WONTONGNI. PW thinks the Hqs of these troops are still at the same locations.
The 107th Inf Regt was organized in Aug 1950. It consisted of 4000 men. PW believes two (2) Inf Bns escaped north of 38° Parallel.

Equipment:
The 107th Inf Regt had one (1) Artillery and four (4) Inf Bns. the Arty Bn had two (2) 105mm pieces and eight (8) 57mm pieces, all captured from US Forces.

Unit Duties:
The 107th Inf Regt was to defend the shoreline from 3 km north of INCHON to the HAN River mouth.

Unit History:
This was a new unit and the first time in action. The CO, Col KIM, who took the place of Lt Col CHEY, Hong, was heard to have been killed in action.

Dispositions:
PW states that Regts from 101 to 113 were all below the 38° Parallel. the 107th and 106th Regts were the only ones to have a Bn of Arty. The rest were entirely Inf with from 2500 to 3000 men each. The 106th and 107th each had 4000 men.

US PW Camps:
PW camp was located about 1 km east of the West PYONGYANG RR Station and approx 700 - 800 meters northeast of the foot of “MOLANBON Mountain.” This mountain is about 100 meters high.
The PW camp was formally a Korean Elementary School. It is a wooden building, coated with cement. It has a gable type slate roof. This building measures 8-10m wide and 50-60m long. It is a two story building with numerous windows. This camp is enclosed by a one meter high barbed wire fence. Various kinds of plants about 2m high were grown in the surrounding area.
In July 1950, PW and 10 others went to this PW camp to equip the building with a piano, organ, etc. At this time PW counted about 105 American Prisoners imprisoned here. There were five Hawaiian Niseis. The highest ranking PW was a captain. There were some wounded among them, these were sent to a Korean Hospital. There were ten (10) NK soldiers guarding the entrance to this enclosure.
On 30 July 1950, PW learned from a NK Newspaper, “THE LABOR NEWS,” that approximately 600 American PW were taken to the same PW camp (captured during 20 July to 30 July). These prisoners were all taken to PYONGYANG by train.
This school was constructed by Japanese about 20-30 years ago, therefore it looks old. There was a dirt road about 2m wide leading to the gate.

Personalities:
Lt Col CHEY, Hong, CO of 107th Inf Regt

General:
PW doesn't know whether the Soviet Army will aid the NKPA if the UN Forces cross the 38° Parallel or not.
