2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
5 Jul 50 Conscripted at HAMHUNG (咸興), received basic training and attached to 578th Unit.
21 Sep 50 578th Unit departed HAMHUNG by rail to CHORWON (鐵原) via WONSAN (元山).
29 Sep 50 Arrived UIJONGBU (議政府) on foot. 2nd Bn engaged in digging fox-holes near an unknown hill (50M) for 2 days.
3 Oct 50 Elements of 2nd Bn engaged in battle but fled towards CHORWON (鐵原) due to heavy firing. Whereabouts of 1st and 3rd Bns unknown. PW deserted and surrendered to UN Forces.

5. WEAPON AND PERSONNEL:
Strength of 578th Unit - 2,000 men.
Each bn consisted of three (3) inf and one (1) HMG Cos.
There were 5/45MM Cannons, 5/Mortars, 15/HMGs, 40/LMGs, and rifles with 70 rds of ammo.
The 5/45 Cannons when last observed were situated in an mountainous area near UIJONGBU (議政府).
PW observed 3/T-34 tanks near UIJONGBU which were retreating from SEOUL towards CHORWON (鐵原).

6. INTENTION:
578th Unit objective was to defend UIJONGBU at any cost.

7. MORALE:
The morale of the troops was low. They hoped to be captured by UN Forces.

7. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
On two occasions, while travelling from WONSAN to UIJONGBU, it was necessary for the troops to get off the train while the train traversed the bridges. This was due to the unserviceability of the bridges.
