1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW very cooperative but information limited.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
15 Aug 50 - Inducted at SARIWON (沙里院). Received 30 days of training and attached to 78th Regt, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co.
17 Sep 50 - Entire 78th Regt departed SARIWON by marching at night for SEOUL.
21 Sep 50 - On arrival, received orders to retreat to UIJONGBU (議政府).
25 Sep 50 - 3rd Bn with other retreating units arrived CHORWON (鐵原).
30 Sep 50 - 3rd Bn arrived UIJONGBU and joined the Regt. PW deserted at night.
2 Oct 50 - Captured by 1st Marines.

4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
There were four (4) Russian officers (believed to be Majs and Lt Cols) assigned to the 78th Regt as training supervisors at SARIWON (沙里院).

5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:
The 78th Regt was comprised of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bns and each bn was comprised of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Inf Cos, 4th HMG Co, and the Mortar Co. There were a Communication and an AT Gun Pltns attached to each bn. The MG Co had 4 HMG and the Mortar Co had 2 or 3 mortars.
Strength of the 78th Regt was estimated to be approx 1,600 men, 550 men in each bn. However, when the regt reorganized at UIJONGBU, 30 Sep 50, strength was only 450 men.

6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
PW believes the 78th Regt met the UN Forces at UIJONGBU after he deserted. The men were armed with only rifles and 100 rds of ammo.
25 Sep 50, PW heard that an unknown Div and a Volunteer Corps unit were stationed at CHORWON (鐵原).
The main road between SEOUL and CHORWON (6 M wide dirt road) was in fairly good condition.
