2. EVALUATION:
Subject was cooperative and talked freely.
Education - Medical College (3 yrs)
Information - Reliable

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
7 Aug 50 Conscripted at PYONGYANG (平壤) and given the rank of Lt the following day due to his education.
9 Aug 50 Subject and 4 medical officers departed PYONGYANG by rail.
12 Aug 50 Arrived CHORWON (鉄原) 23rd Arty Regt activated.
16 Aug 50 Subject deserted, returned to PYONGYANG by truck.
17 Aug 50 Arrived PYONGYANG dressed in military clothing and hid in his home until 21 Sep 50. Heard UN Forces were entering SEOUL so planning to surrender, rode to SEOUL.
25 Sep 50 Arrived SEOUL and surrendered to Korean Police on 28 Sep 50.

6. STRENGTH & PERSONNEL:
There were approx 1,200 men in the Ind 23rd Arty Regt, composed of 3 Bns with 3 Cos in each Bn. Officers were all Koreans who were veterans of the 8th Route Army.

7. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
Subject observed 3 US cannons under repair at CHORWON (鉄原).

8. US PsW:
30 PsW were observed walking thru the street of PYONGYANG in Jul 50. Subject heard that PsW were quartered in a university within the city.

9. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
19 Sep 50, subject observed the NKPA HQs being bombed by aircraft. He heard that several hundred people, including Russian officers were killed.
That the UN Forces had entered SEOUL was general knowledge in PYONGYANG on 21 Sep 50. The news probably was picked up on illegal radio sets. In 47, the NKPG had confiscated all short wave receiving sets. The general reaction to the news was joy in that it was believed that the Korean conflict would soon be ended. Surrender leaflets also were observed in PYONGYANG.
No troop concentration nor fortifications were observed by subject while he was traveling from CHORWON to SEOUL 21-25 Sep 50.
