PW NAME: LEE, Kee Chun
PW NO: None
RANK: Maj
AGE: 24
DUTY: Asst Chief Food and Clothing Section (Div Hq)
UNIT: 105 Tank Unit (Medium Tank T-34)
PLACE OF CAPTURE: SUWON
DATE OF CAPTURE: 21 Sep 50
PLACE OF BIRTH: SAMCHOCK
HOME ADDRESS: SAMCHOCK Gun, SHITON Myon, SHIYON Lee 47
INTERROGATED BY: SFC FUKUSHIMA

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative but due to his lack of combat experience, tactical information was not obtainable. However, information obtained may be considered reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Inducted into the NK Army on 30 Dec 47. Received 3 months of basic military training at PYONGYANG. After completion of training, PW was assigned to the 105 Medium Tank Unit which was stationed on the outskirts of PYONGYANG City.
PW and his unit left PYONGYANG on May 50 and fought all the way S to TAEGU; however, PW did not go any further south than KIMCHON.
The 105 Medium Tank Unit did participate in the battle of TAEGU but the PW states that he was always in the rear at KIMCHON.
On the 5 Sep 50 one of the officers from the PW’s unit came back from a base conferences and stated that the tide of battle had changed for the worse so PW deserted his unit at KIMCHON o/a 10 Sep 50 and started back to SEOUL with a vehicle and driver. Before reaching SEOUL he came in contact with some UN Forces at SUWON so he gave himself up o/a 21 Sep 50. His driver ran away.

Unit Organization:
The 105 Tank Unit contained 5,000 troops and 150 medium tanks (T-34).
Unit commander was YU, Kyong Su, a Maj Gen until he became a casualty on 2 Sep 50.
On 3 Sep 50 SON, Yong Sil, a Col became the Unit Commander.
PW believes that the 105 Tank Unit’s loss of personnel and equipment was very heavy during the battles of TAEGU and no replacements were received, so it is believed that when the 105 Tank Unit retreated to KIMCHON only 20% of Unit strength was left. Unit retreated and arrived at KIMCHON o/a 10 Sep 50 for the purpose of reorganizing. After reorganizing it is believed that the 105 Tank Unit retreated further north.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
105 Tank Unit Hq was located about 4 Km NE of the W HEIJO RR sta. There were 3 concrete buildings approx 7 m x 70 m x 2 stories. 3 of these bldgs were being occupied by the 105 Tank Unit and the center bldg was used as the Hq for the Tank Unit. There were 5,000 troops here and when the unit pulled out of this area all went except one Regt.
PW stated that, he heard from his fellow PsW captured by UN forces o/a 27 Sep - 3 Oct 50 that the ammunition manufacturing plant and the military units barracks located in PYONGYANG were destroyed by the UN Air Forces.
PW further states that many industrial plants located within the city limits of PYONGYANG were heard to have been destroyed by the UN Air Forces.
PW believed that there won't be much guerrilla warfare carried out due to the fact that practically all of the original NK troops have been killed and the replacements which were received do not have enough training to carry out guerrilla warfare. PW further believes that guerrilla warfare cannot be carried out extensively because the supply line had been cut and most of the troops did not have enough supplies for guerrilla warfare to be carried out extensively. Also, there are no means of communication.
PW believes that the troops are willing to stop fighting but the higher officials are forcing the troops to fight to the last. If and when the UN forces cross the 38th parallel PW believes that RUSSIA and the Chinese Communists will send there troops in to KOREA to fight beside the NK Army. This is based on the fact that if all of KOREA is occupied by UN Forces it would give the UN Forces a closer based to operate their forces to strike at RUSSIA. Furthermore, PW believes that in the event RUSSIA sends her troops into KOREA, the Russian troops will be sent down through CHONGJIN by land and the Chinese Communist government will send her troops through ANTUNG and SINUIJU to KOREA.

5. GENERAL:
US PsW:
PW observed about 500 American PsW at CHONAN o/a 17 Aug 50 while he was enroute to join his unit at KIMCHON. He states that the American PsW were located in CHONAN police station. O/a 25 Aug 50 when he came back to CHONAN for 2 truckloads of rice, he did not see the prisoners, so inquired about it. He was told by the people at CHONAN that the American PsW were transferred to KYONGSONG o/a 20 Aug 50.
