ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative. Information seems to be reliable. PW had been in the service for 13 months.

8th Division composed of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rifle Regts, Arty Regt, Signal Unit, Tank Unit, Transportation Co, SMG Co, Engr Bn, Recon Co and Medical Unit.
1st Regt composed of 1st Rifle Bn (code name: Chestnut tree), 2nd, and 3rd Rifle Bns, Medical Plat, SMG Plat, Transportation Co, and Recon Platoon.
2nd Bn composed of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rifle companies, 82mm Mortar Co, Medical Plat, Engr Plat, 14.5mm AT Plat, Recon Plat, Ordnance Unit (1 Officer and 4 EM) and HMG Co.

PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 26 Aug 49, at KANSONG, into the 38th parallel Guard Unit, 1st Brigade, 1916th Unit, HMG Co.
Departed from KANSONG during Jul 50, marched with the entire 1st Brigade, and arrived at KANGNUNG o/a 10 Jul 50, whereupon the 1st Brigade was renamed the 8th Division. Reached PUNGSAN 26 Sep 50.
While marching from PUNGSAN on 26 Sep 50, with a Transportation Capt, two (2) 2nd Lts, and twenty one (21) other EM, PW was surrounded by ROK soldiers and the entire group surrendered immediately.

REPLACEMENTS:
Received approx 70 South Korean conscripts and 30 NKPA soldiers as replacements for the 2nd Bn at UIHUNG o/a 18 Sep 50.
Total replacement for the 2nd Bn since Jul 50 were approx 150 men.

FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Received an average of 2 bowls of rice or barley daily.
Ammo dump location at ANDONG o/a 18 Sep 50.
Observed one (1) 2½ ton truck loaded with mortar and small arms ammo at UIHUNG o/a 19 Sep 50.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
When PW surrendered, he was holding a UN leaflet telling NKPA personnel to surrender quickly as they would be given good treatment. PW picked up the leaflet at UIHUNG o/a 16 Sep 50.
HERESAY : Rumor was that the CCF had given the NKPA 1,000 airplanes.
PW learned of the UN entry into INCH’ON and SEOUL from a leaflet he picked up at UIHUNG o/a 15 Sep 50.
