FIELD REPORT (164 - MISDI - 1010)　29 September 1950

PW was cooperative.

Information limited.

The 1st & 2nd Tank Battalions, an SMG Company and Battalion, and a transportation platoon of the 17th Division, departed SEOUL in the early part of September for ANDONG, Infantry Regiments of the 17th Division remained in SEOUL, with the Division Headquarters.

17th Division composed of 2 rifle regiments, 2 tank battalions, one SMG Battalion, one SMG Company and a transportation platoon. Due to lack of tanks, 2 rifle regiments were formed to fill the gap.

PW’s unit was fighting together with the NK 8th Division at UISONG. They withdrew towards ANDONG, 22 Sep 50.

It was in UISONG sector, where 38 tanks of PW’s unit were destroyed by aircraft. When PW was captured, his unit and the 8th Division were proceeding to YONGJU. Elements of the 15th, 7th and the 5th Divisions were seen retreating towards YONGJU simultaneously with the 8th Division.

It was heard that the 8th, 15th, 7th, 5th and the 17th (Task Force) Divisions were to assemble in YOUNGU.

Conscripted 8 Jul of 50 in PYONGYANG.

Received 2 days training.

Approximately 200 conscripted South Koreans sere seen in ANDONG, prior to PW’s capture, 26 Sep 50. All were unarmed.

Five American PW’S (one Negro, one Warrant Officer) were seen in UISONG, captured by the 8th Division.
