ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1649　4 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0999)　2 October 1950

PW was cooperative and answered questions without hesitation. Since he was never in combat, his information was limited.

5 Aug 49 - Inducted into NKPA.

5 Aug 49 - 15 Apr 50 - Trained in operation and maintenance of motor vehicles.

15 Apr 50 - Transferred to KUMHWA (金化) and assigned to 1st Brigade Motor Pool. Duties were to handle only food supplies for units of 2nd Bn, 1st BC Brigade.

21 Jun 50 - Promoted to Cpl.

30 Jun 50 - 1st BC Brigade departed KUMHWA, marched to KANGNUNG (江陵) arriving 4 Jul 50. 2nd Bn of 1st BC Brigade was assigned to bring food supplies from KUMHWA to KANGNUNG, arriving KANGNUNG with 6 truck loads of rice and salted fish. In KANGNUNG the 1st Brigade of 3,500 men combined with 6,500 recruits and formed the 8th Div.

8 Jul 50 - Promoted to Jr Lt in charge of transportation of food supplies for 1st Regt, 8th Div. T/0 & E for Motor Transportation Co:

Two (2) Jr Lt　Two (2) Sr Sgts　Twenty three (23 Pvts)

Vehicles: 7 trucks, 2½-ton. 1 x jeep for Sr Lt.

11 Jul 50 - 8th Div departed KANGNUNG, arrived KUMSONG-Myon (金城面), 1 Sep 50, via CHECH’ON (堤川), TANYANG, PUNGGI, YECH’ON (醴川), ANDONG (安東), UISONG (義城).

? Jul 50 - Two (2) trucks destroyed by aircraft, at YECH'ON.

? Aug 50 - Two (2) trucks destroyed by aircraft at PUNGSAN.

Aug 50 - Issued two (2) trucks in ANDONG.

3 Sep 50 - Three (3) trucks destroyed by aircraft at UIHUNG (　　　).

1 Sep 50 - The 17th Armored Brigade was observed in ANDONG 42 x T-34/85 tanks heading toward UIHUNG.

3 Sep 50 - Only 10 x T-34/85 tanks observed in UIHUNG.

CHECH’ON was the principal rice supply dump for 8th Div. PW believes that most of rice issued to 1st Regt was from CHECHON.

Amount of rice drawn for 4 days for 3,000 men was 150 bags of rice. Field ration, rice - 40 bags to each Regt. Enough for one (1) or two (2) rice balls daily for 4 days per man.

Breakfast is usually at 1000 hrs, no lunch and supper at midnight.

Due to aircraft attacks, supply trucks travelled at night. Since roads were damaged and bridges out, transportation CO was always delayed in delivering supplies. On one occasion 7 truck loads of rice were destroyed by aircraft before they could be delivered to Regt’l Supply.

21 Sep 50 - Transportation Co departed UIHUNG, on foot at there was no gasoline for trucks. Arrived ANDONG 24 Sep 50. Went on to P’UNGSAN (豊山). Captured by ROK troops while eating breakfast in P’UNGSAN
