FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0993)　1 October 1950

PW appeared to be unintelligent, but fairly cooperative. PW appeared to have difficulty remembering sequence of events (tactical movements). PW considered unreliable by interrogator.

28 Nov 46 - Volunteered for Security Unit Training Center (保安幹部訓練所), 2nd Div. Assigned to 5th Regt, NANAM (羅南). Received 5-months basic training.

Dec 48 - PW promoted from Pvt to M/Sgt (特務上士). Duties at Bn Supply.

Jul 49 - PW enrolled at NKPA Central Political School (人民軍中央政治學校), P’YONGYANG. Received 10-months course in Korean History, military administration and leadership.

22 May 50 - PW graduated. Assigned to 10th Div, SUKCH’ON (肅川). Duties as Political Officer, 5th Co, 2nd Bn, 25th Regt. PW promoted from M/Sgt to Lt (中尉).

27 Jul 50 - 10th Div left SUKCH’ON via rail.

O/a 2 Aug 50 - Div arrived at SEOUL via P’YONGYANG, SARIWON (沙里院), KAESONG (開城). Continued south, on foot.

O/a 18 Sep 50 - Div arrived at W bank, NAKTONG River, SE of KORYONG (高靈). 29th Regt, 25th Regt, Div Arty Regt crossed river in that order. Arty (truck drawn) forded across river. 27th Inf Regt did not cross river.

19-25 Sep 50 - Div unit dispositions as follows:

Div Hq - located in KORYONG.

25th Inf Regt - Deployed in hills along southern approach to KACH’ON-DONG (架川洞), 16 km N of N of CH’ANGNYONG (昌寧).

27th Inf Regt - Deployed in defensive positions on west bank, NAKTONG River, guarding SONGJU (星州) highway river crossing point (bridge destroyed by air interdiction-date unknown) ESE of SONGJU.

29th Inf Regt - Deployed in or around HYONP’UNG (玄風), 4 km N of KACH’ON-DONG.

Div Arty Regt - Positioned in hills immediately NW of 25th Inf Regt.

26 Sep 50 - General withdrawal of 10th Div from above positions. River crossing during withdrawal effected at point, NAKTONG River, W of HYONP’UNG in following order; 29th Inf Regt, Div Arty Regt (4 x 76-mm Guns - truck drawn), model u/k), 25th Inf Regt. 25th Inf Regt took up position in wooded hills 2 km SE of KORYONG. Other Div units, including Div Hq, withdraw in direction of TAEJON (大田) via KORYONG.

27-28 Sep 50 - 25th Inf Regt engaged by attacking US Army units from south. 25th Inf Regt withdraw from wooded hill position, retreated in direction of TAEJON. PW remained behind.

28 1600 K Sep 50 - PW surrendered to US Army unit, 2 km SE of KORYONG.

PW estimated following casualty rates in unit in a single engagement:

Dead - 20%

Wounded - 50%

Death rate among wounded - 30% (mostly from arty-mortar wounds).
