2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed apprehensive although he answered questions cooperatively. Learned of the UN INCH'ON landing from a local civilian near KUMCH'ON who obtained information through UN propaganda leaflets. Claims his family is Christian and that he has always been and will always be anti-Communist.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 50: Inducted at P'YONGYANG. Assigned to the recently activated 98th Ind Regt stationed at SARIWON. No training received. No arm issued. NKPA uniforms issued to all.
o/a 20 Aug 50: 98th Ind Regt, approx 1,000 strong, departed SARIWON (marched)
25 Sep 50: 98th Regt arrived KUMCH'ON via SEOUL, TAEJON. PW deserted unit, changed into white civilian clothes obtained from a farmer near KUNCH'ON and headed north. Destination, SEOUL.
28 Sep 50: Arrived CH'ONGJU via TAEJON. Nearing CH'ONGJU, PW surrendered immediately after learning that city was in hands of UN Forces.

Composition of UNIT:
98th Regt activated Aug 50 at SARIWON. Strength 1,000, all fresh, untrained conscripts except for company commanders and above. No arms issued. No vehicles assigned. Personnel undisciplined; morale low, mostly due to hunger. Will to fight, practically nil.

Intentions:
Just prior to deserting, PW heard that 98th Ind Regt was to depart immediately for KORYONG (高靈).

Other units:
On 25 Sep 50 observed at least 1,500 NKPA troops in scattered groups, heading toward TAEJON, on the TAEJON-KUMCH'ON highway.

Armor:
o/a 20 Sep 50 observed about 20 x Russian tanks similar to the T-34/85 tanks at a point on the TAEJON-KUMCH'ON highway, midway between said towns. Tanks were heading towards TAEJON in a column, 50m interval between tanks.
