2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and talked freely. He was observant and had a fairly good memory. He surrendered to US soldiers.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
4 Nov 48: Inducted in P’YONGYANG (平壤) with 2,000 others.
10 Mar 50: Departed HANP’O arrived in SUKCH’ON (肅川) 10 Mar 50. 2,000 newly conscripted soldiers organized the 27th Regt, 10th Div. Received basic training. PW placed in charge of horses, 45mm AT Gun Co. Had 13 horses and 1 donkey to pull artillery pieces.
26 Jul 50: Departed SUKCH’ON by train and arrived SEOUL 31 Jul 50.
31 Jul 50: Approximately 2,000 men with weapons and equipment departed SEOUL on foot and arrived KUNP’O (軍浦) 4 Aug 50. Attacked by US aircraft and lost 30 men. PW suffered log infection and was relieved from duty. Remained at KUNP’O police station. 1970 men departed. PW remained here for 7 days.
11 Aug 50: PW and five others left KUNP’O and arrived SONGJU (星州) 10 Sep 50. They were attached to 45mm AT Gun Co, 27th Regt, 10th Div. On 24 Sep 50, US infantrymen attacked captured 2 NK soldiers and the rest escaped, leaving 3 x 45mm AT guns. PW was captured in this engagement.

All heavy weapons were left behind when the troops retreated. 300 men of the original 2,000 men of the 27th Regt remained of 24 Sep 50. They retreated north from SANGJU.

Supply:
Ammunition dump was under a small concrete bridge about 4 km NE of SONGJU. Food supply dump was located in CHUNGP’UNG NYONG (秋風嶺) approximately 6 km of NW of KUMCH’ON

Present Disposition:
27th Regt of 10th Div was in SONGJU Area on 24 Sep 50. 45mm Gun Co, was 2 km E of SONGJU when PW captured.

Training:
All the personnel of 27th Regt of 10th Div received at least 3 months training. Special training was given to artillery men.

Morale:
Since the outbreak of the war PW’s morale had been low. On 15 Sep 50 he read a leaflet in SONGJU and believed the contents.

4. GENERAL:
80% of the North Korean soldiers lacked the will to fight and would surrender if they could.
