2. ASSESMENT:
PW appeared to be of average intelligence. He was cooperative and talked freely, however, due to short length of service, he could not give much information of value.
PW was wearing civilian clothes when captured.
Length of service - 2 months.
Physical condition - good
Reliability - Fair

3. MILITARY HISTORY
16 Jul 50 Inducted at KAESONG (開城) and attached to 7th Div, 8th Arty Regt, 3rd Bn, 9th Co. Received no basic training.
18 Jul 50 8th Arty Regt departed KAESONG.
21 Jul 50 Arrived SUWON (水源).
22 Jul 50 Departed SUWON by marching at night.
14 Aug 50 Arrived KWANGJU (光州).
30 Aug 50 Departed KWANGJU by marching at night.
5 Sep 50 Arrived CHINJU (晉州).
10 Sep 50 Departed CHINJU by marching at night.
12 Sep 50 Arrived UIRYONG (宜寧).
Circumstance of Capture: On 14 Sep 50, PW deserted at UIRYONG and surrendered to the 31st Inf Regt On 26 Sep at SUWON.
Note: Subject did not know if the entire 7th Div went to the Southern Front or remained in KAESONG.
The 8th Arty Regt of the 7th Div was in UIRYONG when PW deserted on 14 Sep 50.

4. WEAPONS:
PW observed following armament in the 3rd Bn, 8th Arty Regt, 7th Div.
20/rifles, 6/75MM Guns, 5/105MM Guns
5 trucks
20 rds of ammo issued to each man
Note: 105MM Guns were U.S. made and had insufficient ammo.

5. ORGANIZATION & STRENGTH OF UNIT:
The 8th Arty Regt was composed of three (3) Bns and its strength was approx 3,000 men when organized in KAESONG.
At UIRYONG, the strength was about 2,800.

6. MORALE:
Morale of the 8th Arty Regt was low. Most of the men were forcibly conscripted. Moreover, they had no military training.
They were fed two meals a day and each meal consisted of one bowl of rice and boiled potatoes.
PW’s intention to desert was prompted by surrender leaflet he read when he was at UIRYONG on 10 Sep 50. It read "If you want to live, surrender! or else".
