ASSESSMENT:
PW seems cooperative. Information seems reliable.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW and 3 other men were inducted into the NKPA on 4 Aug 50. On the same day, they were enrolled at the 1st Military Academy and PW was assigned to 1st Co, 2nd Plt.
There were approximately twelve (12) students in his squad, thirty six (36) students in 2nd Platoon, and one hundred (100) students in 1st Company.
The Military Academy was located approximately 120 km south of PYONGYANG Railroad Station. There were approximately 7 wooden buildings, each approximately 30 meters in length and 8 meters in width. RW stated that these buildings were former Japanese Army barracks.
The bombings were too heavy, so they built temporary shacks for training.
Their training was from 4 Aug 50 to 25 Aug 50. Upon completion of training, informant was given the rank of Lieutenant.
Highest ranking officer observed at this academy was a Major (one star on 2 silver stripes of epaulet).
The training period (21 days) included manual of arms (M1891/30 rifles, PPsh M1941 SMG), operating of MAXIM M1910 HMG and close order drill.
PW and 10 officers received orders to proceed to OSONG headquarters. They reached the town of OSONG, but the headquarter had departed. They proceeded for TAEJON and on toward SONGJU.
On 24 Aug they were captured by 7th Cav Regt, 1st Cav Division.
Out of the ten (10) officers who departed from the academy 8 of them were armed with PPsh M1941 SMG, some of them had two (2) magazines (ammo). Other two officers were given M1891/30 rifle with one clip of ammo each.
