LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
8th Division Headquarters was at ANDONG as of 24 Sep 50.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 29 Jan 50, at KANSONG, into the 38th Parallel Guard, 1st Brigade, 3rd Bn, Mortar Co.
Trained for 5 months as mortar man at KANGSONG.
Departed from KANSONG on 23 Jun 50, by train, with the entire 1st Brigade, and arrived at YANGYANG on 24 Jun 50. Upon arrival at YANGYANG, the 1st Brigade was redesignated the 8th Division.
Departed from YANGYANG with 8th Division on 26 Jun 50, reached vicinity of UISONG approx 5 km o/a 5 Aug 50.
Performed guard duty through the mountains approximately 6 km SW of UISONG until 14 Sep 50. PW was then commissioned Jr Lieutenant because the NCO Training Battalion had suffered heavy casualties among its officers as well as enlisted personnel as a result of frequent attacks by aircraft.
On 23 Sep 50, the NCO Training Battalion was attacked by ROK units. PW and 20 EM with him surrendered at 241500 K Sep 50.

REPLACEMENTS:
Approximately 150 untrained South Korean conscripts arrived as replacements for the NCO Training Battalion on 13 Sep 50.

FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Received an average of one rice ball daily until all rice was gone on 22 Sep 50. Thereafter personnel of the NCO Training Battalion ate one bowl of barley mush per day.
Observed 2 empty 2½ ton trucks approximately 8 km South of UISONG (on the ANDONG - YONGCHON road) on 23 Sep 50.

ARMOR AND ARTILLERY:
Observed two (2) T-34/85 Tanks, six (6) 76 mm guns, and five (5) 120 mm Mortars approximately 8 km south of UISONG (on the ANDONG - YONGCHON road) on 23 Sep 50.

MORALE:
Morale in the NCO Training Battalion remained high until 23 Sep 50 as they still believed that the NKPA had only a little more territory to take to win the Korean war

GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW repeatedly saw UN leaflets dropped around the UISONG area and was carrying a Safe Conduct Pass then he was captured.
