3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
| 14 Jul 49: | PW's unit, the Korean Volunteer Group of the 164th Div of the Chinese Communist Army, was transferred to NANAM (羅南), KOREA from MANCHURIA. Entire 164th Div personnel was made up of Korean nationals from MANCHURIA. |
| 19 Jul 49: | Arrived at NANAM, North KOREA (Replacement Center for units from MANCHURIA) and reassigned to the newly formed 5th Div. The entire group of 7,500 men were assigned to various units in the 5th Div. PW assigned to 11th Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co. |
| 19 Jun 50: | PW' s unit of 2, 500 men departed NANAM (羅南) by rail and arrived KANSONG (杆城) 23 Jun. Hearsay: The 10th Regt of the 5th Div was in YANGYANG (襄陽). |
| 27 Jun 50: | Departed KANSONG (杆城) marched - crossed the 38° parallel and arrived in KANGNUNG, date unknown. Notified that they were at war with ROK because the people were living in terror under President Syngman RHEE’s Government, and the North Korean people's Army were to liberate them. |
| ? Jul 50: | Departed KANGNUNG (江陵) marched and entered CHUNGYANG (春陽) ? Jul 50 without opposition. |
| ? Jul 50: | Departed CHUNGYANG by marching and arrived SINAN DONG (新安洞) Jul 50. There they surrounded some ROK forces in the mountains and engaged them 14 hrs which ended in annihilation of the ROK forces. Only the 2nd Bn was employed. |
| Jul 50: | 11th Regt departed SINAN DONG (新安洞) and marched to the outskirts of YONGDOK and joined the 10th, 12th and Artillery Regts of the 5th Div. |

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the PW's unit was fair during the early stages of war but gradually dropped due to lack of air support, lack of food and the constant bombing and strafing by the UN aircraft. Also due to poor leadership on the part of officers trained in N. KOREA.
