23 Sep 50: ROK forces closed in on the 2nd Regt CP from the about and the Security Guard Plt was ordered to hold the line until replaced by one of the platoons from the 1st Bn of the 8th Div. In the meantime, the 2nd Regt CO and all his staff officers fled to the north. The Security Guard Plt, after being replaced by a platoon from the 1st Bn, retreated north, together with 17 men of the mortar Co, 2nd Regt. Encountered concentrated small arms fire at YANG-DONG (楊池洞) and the PW was pinned down in a trench together with 3 men from his platoon. Unable to resist further, he surrendered to the ROK forces.

Last known composition of unit:
PW observed the 2nd Regt CO and all the staff officers retreat towards UISONG. However, he believes the major units of the 2nd Regt were wiped out or captured north of UISONG.

Unit History:
PW heard that the 8th Div was formerly a Border Guard Brigade and was reorganized as the 8th Div when the war started. He also heard that the original force of the 8th Div was practically wiped out at Hill 750 (south of UIHUNG) and was replaced by inexperienced troops who were also wiped out. PW believes the 8th Div was replaced by a 3rd group of untrained recruits at Hill 750.

Personalities:
CO of 2nd Regt, 8th Div was Col (大佐) SASAENG (사생).

Morale and Propaganda:
PW believes the troops did not possess and spontaneous will be fight because majority of the units were composed largely of replacements who were drawn from the Volunteer Corps. Also, the repeated withdrawals and retreats were a big factor in the lowering of the morale of the troops. The troops were most afraid of napalm bombs. Next in line was the artillery fire which the PW believes was very accurate.
PW saw a US propaganda leaflet once near UIHUNG but he thought all the statements were nothing but lies. However, he believes that any leaflets with news such as the landing at INCH’ON or the capture of SEOUL would be very effective in lowing the morale of the troops.

4. GENERAL:
PW heard that the only weapon manufactured in NK was the PPsh M1941 tommy gun which was being produced at Platn #65 in P’YONGYANG.
