2. ASSESSMENT:
Subject appeared to be cooperative and furnished information to the best of his knowledge. Information can be considered reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Inducted 17 Aug 50 at KANRI (間里) approx 8 km W of PYONGYANG. On this date the 2nd Engineer Regt was organized at KANRI. Subject was attached to the Heavy Amphibious Bn, 3rd Co of this regt and received 5 days of training. On the morning of 27 Aug 50 only the Heavy Amphibious Bn of the regt departed KANRI by marching and arrived at KIM CHAN RI (金長里) about 3 km W of KANRI on night of 27 Aug 50. (The Heavy Amphibious Bn had not rejoined the regt when PW was captured.) On 27 Aug 50 the strength of the regt was believed to be approximately 2,000 men. It was also believed that the regt was composed of 5 to 6 battalions. The Heavy Amphibious Bn remained in KIM CHAN RI for about 10 days and departed for SEOUL on 27 Aug 50. Arrived at SEOUL on 10 Sep 50 by train and night marching. At this time the H.A. Bn’s strength was estimated to be about 400 men. The bn was equipped with picks, shovels, axes and only ½ of the men were armed with rifles. The bn was commanded by a Captain.
On 10 Sap 50 PW heard that the entire regt had also moved to SEOUL.
Subject deserted his unit on 21 Sep 50 at SEOUL and was captured at SHIN CHON on 26 Sep 50.
Observed a Russian officer at KANRI on 20 Aug 50 whom he identified as either a Major or Lt. Col. from the Red Anny Book.
On 9 Aug 50 while en route to SEOUL subject observed 2 Russian made heavy tanks headed south on a road out side of KAESONG (開道).
