ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1499　29 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0063)　27 September 1950

Subject was in the Army only 10 days.

Subject was inducted in the Army 10 Sep 50 at WON SAN (元山), and assigned to 72 Inf Regt, 3 Bn, 9 Co as rifle man. On 20 Sept. 50 moved to SEOUL. On 24 Sep. 50 approx 500 soldiers of 72 Inf Regt were sent to SHIN CHON (新村) approx 3km NW of SEOUL. Equipment of this unit included 15 heavy machine guns, 15 BARs and each man of the unit had a rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition.

Subject deserted on 25 Sep 50 and was captured at SHIN CHON (新村) the same dayd. Subject does not know what happened to rest of the men.

Strength of 72 Inf Regt was approx 2,000 men. There were 3 battalions in the regiment and 3 companies in each battalion. Strength of each company was approx 120 men. The 72 Inf Regt also had an arty company, a communication company, a mortar company and a heavy machine gun company.

On 25 Sep 50 72 Inf Regt was spread along entire front line. When subject deserted from SHIN CHON, his unit (500 men) was in the first tunnel from SEOUL in SHIN CHON.
