13th Div was composed of the 19th, 21st, and 23rd Rifle Regiments.
23rd Regt was composed of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions.
2nd Bn was composed of three (3) Rifle Co’s, one (1) HMG Co and a Mortar Co.

LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
During night of 20 Sep 50, all officers of 1st and 2nd Bns, 23rd Regt fled, leaving behind approx 90 men on a mountain 12 Km SW of TABU-DONG.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted o/a 12 Jul 50 at SINUIJU.
PW and 5,000 others departed SINUIJU on 2 Aug 50 and arrived at TABU-DONG, 13 Sep 50.
4,000 men from SUINUIJU were assigned to 13th Div o/a 12 Sep 50 near TABU-DONG.
23rd Regt retreated after suffering heavy losses near TABU-DONG.
Remaining members (approx 90) of 1st and 2nd Bns of 23rd Regt feld to a mountain 12 Km SW of TABU-DONG.
Informan and sic (6) others deserted the unit on 20 Sep 50 and surrendered to US soldiers, 24 Km NE of WAEGWAN on 231200 K Sep 50.

REPLACEMENTS:
4,000 untrained recruits from SINUIJU were assigned to 13th Div, o/a 12 Sep 50 near TABU-DONG.

FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was transported by trucks from SANGJU. Food was insufficient. Ammo was believed to be transported from SANGJU by trucks. A supply depot is believed located in SANGJU

MORALE:
Morale of troops was very low because of lack lo food, and hopelessness of their situation.

US PW’s:
Observed three (3) US PW’s at SANGJU being loaded on a truck to be taken to SEOUL (date unknown).
