a. Chronology:
18 Jun 46 - PW volunteered for Korean Railroad Guard Unit (鉄道警備隊), P’YONGYANG. Assigned to 1st Guard Bn. Helped guard railroad tunnels and bridges, P’YONGYANG Area.
2 Feb 48 - NKPA organized. PW’s unit redesignated 3rd Bn, 3rd Bridgade. Continued guard duties.
Sep or Oct 48 - Ind 3rd Brigade de-activated. Unit designated 3rd Div. PW assigned to 9th Inf Regt, HAMHUNG (咸興) 8th Inf Regt stationed in WONSAN (元山). PW trained with unit.
Dec 48 - Promoted to Jr Sgt.
Jun 49 - 9th Inf Regt transferred by rail to KUMHWA (金化).
Dec 49 - Promoted to Sgt.
19 Jun 50 - 9th Inf Regt (strength 2,500) departed KUMHWA on foot.
25 Jun 50 - 9th Inf Regt crossed the 38° Parallel.
29 Jun 50 - Arrived at SEOUL via UIJONGBU (議政府). 7th, 8th Inf Regt advanced ahead of 9th Inf Regt (hearsay). Continued south on foot from SEOUL.
O/a 24 Jul 50 - 9th Inf Regt arrived at TAEJON via highway through SUWON (水原), P’YONGTAEK (平澤), CH’ONAN (天安), CHOCH’IWON (鳥致院).
25 Jul 50 - Regt left TEAJON on foot.
3 Aug 50 - Regt arrived at KUMCH’ON via YONG-DONG (永同).
5 Aug 50 - PW feigned stomach and headache. Sent to convalescent area 14 km N of T’AEGU Highway bridge over NAKTONG River.
8 Sep 50 - Rejoined 9th Inf Regt in combat in area along T’AEGU Highway 8 km SE of WAEGWAN (倭館).
13 Sep 50 - Wounded in hip by shell fragment. Left for rear area.
16 Sep 50 - Arrived at 3rd Div Hospital located in a village (50 huts) 12 km SE of KUMCH’ON. 100 wounded observed there.
22 Sep 50 - Div Hospital evacuated in direction of KUMCH’ON.
23 0800K Sep 50 - PW captured on T’AEGU Highway 4 km E of KUMCH’ON.

Unit Objective:
3rd Div objective was T’AEGU via SINDONG (新洞) RR station on T’AEGU line 13 km NW of T’AEGU.

Unit Morale:
Very low due to lack of weapons, inadequate rations, and general confusion among recently arrived untrained replacements.
