Chronology:
On 4 Mar 50 PW was inducted at KUMHWA (金化). Received 3months of basic training. Assigned to 3rd Div, 9th Regt, 8th Medical HWACH’ON (華川) 23 Jun 50. Deployed for battle among the hills. Crossed the 38 parallel 25 Jun 50. Marched and arrived at SEOUL 28 Jun 50. PW at SEOUL for 2 days. The 8th Medical Co was them attached to the 2nd Div. PW departed SEOUL 1 Jul 50, marched, and arrived at SUWON (水原), 2 Jul 50.
Left SUWON by marching and arrived at P’YONGTAEK (平澤) 6 Jul 50. Departed 8 Jul 50 and arrived at CH’ONAN (天安) 10 Jul 50. Departed 12 Jul 50, arrived at CHOCH’IWON (鳥致院) 13 Jul 50. Departed 15 Jul 50 and arrived at CH’ONGJU (淸州) 16 Jul 50. PW then lost contact with his medical unit and attached himself to the 2nd Div and departed CH’ONGJU 22 Jul 50, arrived at KUMCH’ON (金泉) o/a 25 Aug 50. PW does not know where the 9th Regt was. PW heard that his 8th Medical unit was across the NAKTONG River in the YAKMOK (若木) area. PW departed 31 Aug for the NAKTONG River front and arrived o/a 1 Sep 50. He crossed the NAKTONG River with the NKPA NCO school Co and arrived at the YAKMOK area the same day.
PW then stayed on with the NCO students and acted as a first aid man during the battle. He surrendered near TABUDONG during the retreat, 22 Sep 50. PW claims that the NCO students Co consisted of approx 90 men during the battle at YAKMOK. The NCOs fought with the 7th Regt of the 3rd Div.

Equipment:
PW claims only five (5) or six (6) 82mm M1937 mortars are left in the 7th Regt. No first aid medicine or blood plasma at Bn or Regt’1 aid station level. Wounded are only bandaged and sent to the rear. No injection of any kind given. PW said penicillin is not known to him. Many high school and university girl students are NKPA nurses. Some are doctors. There were approx forty (40) girls in the 3rd Div Medical Co.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW saw propaganda leaflets and was impressed by the treatment promised by UN forces. Officers told their troops that they would win this war and that the retreat was nothing but a strategic withdrawal. The rank and file think otherwise. Morale is low among the NK troops. The food situation is bad. The continuous attacks by UN fighter aircraft has a decided effect upon their will to fight. The most feared weapon is the fighter aircraft. Diarrhea and malaria are the most common disease among NKPA troops. Approx 80 of the troops are ill from these diseases.

Remark:
No winter uniforms are being issued. The stench of the dead is so strong among the hills and valleys that it has a very strong depressing affact upon morale.

For the Commanding Officer:
