1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and fairly intelligent. Although an officer, he was inducted after the war started and had only about 10 days training. Therefore, tactical information was limited. Information is considered fairly reliable.
PW stated that he had a Safe Conduct Pass When he surrendered. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
14 Jul 50 - Inducted at P’YONGYANG. Since PW had some deucation, he was commissioned a Jr Lt, 19 Jul 50. Trained on 57mm AT Guns (M1943) for approximately 10 days. AT Mixed Regt (Code No 849) was activated on 8 Aug 50. It was composed of an AT Gun Bn and a mixed Bn.
9 Aug 50 - AT Gun Bn departed P’YONGYANG by train. Mixed Bn departed P’YONGYANG o/a 11 Aug 50, by train.
O/a 20 Aug 50 - AT Gun Bn reached YONGJU (榮州) via SEOUL and WONJU (原州).
O/a 25 Aug 50 - AT Gun Bn reached a point approx 5km SE of KUMCH’ON (金泉) and was attached to 105th Armored Div.
O/a 27 Aug 50 - AT Gun Bn advanced to NAM-Myon (1120-1460). Mixed Bn which departed P’YONGYANG o/a 11 Aug 50, had already arrived at a point 4km E of NAM-Myon. AT Gun Bn separated into companies and scattered in the vicinity of NAM-Myon.
20 Sep 50 - The AT Gun Bn took up positions approx 400 meters SE of POKSONG-DONG and was surrounded by US troops. During the night, however, many troops managed to escape.
21 Sep 50 - Approx 60 men remained in the AT Gun Bn. Bn CO and CO of 3rd Co escaped during the night. The 60 men and 20 men from the Mixed Bn surrendered at 211100 Sep 50.

b. Original Organization and Strength:
AT Gun Bn: 168 men 11 x 57-mm AT Guns.

Last Known Conposition of Unit:
AT Guns Bn: PW estimated that approx 60 men and 7 x 57-mm AT Guns were captured by the US troops.
PW last saw the 2nd Co (40 men and 3 x 57-mm AT Guns) at NAM-Myon (1120-1460) 20 Sep 50.

c. Artillery:
PW observed approx 20 x 76-mm (M1942) Division Guns being hauled by trucks to the rear at NAM-Myon (1120-1460) o/a 18 Sep 50. PW believes that these guns were being sent towards KUMCH’ON from WAEGWAN (倭館).

d. Location of Div Hqs:
PW heard from the 3rd Co CO o/a 26 Aug 50, that the 105th Armored Div Hqs was located approximately 5km SE of KUNCH’ON.

e. Located of Ammunition Dumps:
PW heard from a NKPA truck driver that ammunition was hauled from YONGJU during the night.

f. Supplies:
The troops of the AT Bn ate 3 times a day while at NAM-Myon from o/a 27 Aug 50, to 19 Sep 50. They received rice from local farmers.

g. Intentions:
The AT Mixed Regt, a reserve unit, was to defend NAM-Myon (1120-1460).

h. Personalities:
AT Bn Co: KIM, Kyu Sik (金奎植) (김규식); Capt (總尉) Age about 30.
1st Co CO: LEE, Kap (李甲) (이갑); Lt (中尉) Age, 23.
3rd Co Political Off: SIN, Chang Kom (申長劒) (신장검); Lt (中尉); Age, 30.
Remarks: Surrendered together with PW at POKSONG-DONG, 20 Sep 50.
2nd Plt Lder, 2rd Co: KIM, Ok Jin (金玉鎭) (김옥진); Jr Lt (少尉); Age, 23.

h. Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the officers and EM in the AT Mixed Regt was very low because they had been conscripted into the NKPA. When the troops learned that the UN Forces had landed at INCH’ON (仁川) from propaganda leaflets, morale dropped even lower.

4. SPECIAL EEI:
1. PW has not seen any Communist (Chinese or USSR) armed forces south of the 38th parallel.
2. PW believes that the Chinese Communist Forces will not intervene in this war because CHINA cannot fight against all the UN Forces.
3. PW said there were no planes or naval ships in N KOREA.
4. PW believes that most of the Koreans (South and North) will cooperate with the UN Forces when the areas are retaken.
