2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative. information seems reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Inducted 14 Jul, ‘47 at WONSAN (元山). Attached to SEOUL Regt, Ind co SEOUL city on 29 Aug, ’50. Prior to this time PW drove a fire truck for the Security Forces at WONSAN. Officers in SEOUL Regt were armed with dither an automatic pistol and 6 round of ammunition, or “SHPAGIN” PPSH M1941 submachine gun and 72 rounds of ammunition. EM were armed with rifles and 80 to 100 rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades.

5. STRENGTH OF UNIT:
Strength of SEOUL Regt approximately 2,300 men.

6. GENERAL:
PW thinks of the 38 parallel as a boundary between two states and not as a boundary between countries. He thinks North Korea will not defend the 38th parallel because of the exhaustion of fighting equipment. War equipment being used is all surplus material left b the Russians after cessation of hostilities in 1945. NKA has an insufficient number of mortars, artillery, tanks and trucks. This officer never was “Safe conduct peaces”.

7. MORALE:
Since the NKA soldier does not want to die, and does not have adequate weapons to fight, most of them want to surrender.

8. US PWs:
On 15 Jul, ‘50 about 150 US PWs were observed marching along the road at PYONG YONG. PWs wore US Army fatigues, caps and boots. There were about 15 guards.
