ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1442　28 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0053)　26 September 1950

Subject was cooperative. What little information furnished can be considered reliable.

Length of service: 1 month 12 days

Physical condition: Good

Captured in small group (4 men) all wearing army uniforms.

Subject was forcibly inducted 7 Aug 50 at SARIWON (沙里院). Assigned to the 98th Regt, 7 Bn, 2 Co, 3 Pltn. Subject received no training with this unit while at SARI WON.

According to hearsay from fellow soldier, the Regt was composed of 9 battalions. The 2 Co of the 7 Bn comprised about 180 men.

On 5 Sep 50 the entire Regt moved by train and marching and arrived at TAE JON (大田) on 19 Sep 50. At this point, troops were told their destination was KUM CHON (金泉) where the regt was to be an occupation unit. (Marching was done only during the night and troops hid in the mountains during the day to avoid air raids.)

On 19 Sep 50 PW and 3 others deserted. Having no knowledge of US Troops at SU WON they traveled north by train and foot for 7 days and were captured 25 Sep 50 near SU WON.

The entire 98th Regt was last seen at TAE JON on 19 Sep 50. At that time the 2 Co of the 7 Bn was equipped with only one rifle.

On 1 Sep 50 at SARI WON subject observed a CCF unit of about 300 men marching into SARI WON. (Troops wore NK Army uniforms.) Heard that this unit was composed of Koreans of the COF. This unit remained in SARI WON when the 98th Regt moved to TAE JON on 5 Sep 50.
