ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1431　27 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (163 - MISDI - 0123)　24 September 1950

PW attended 13 years of school, including one year at PYONG YONG Teacher's College. PW said he voluntarily surrendered at SU SAK on 21 September 1950. No further interrogation recommended.

PW attended 1st Military Officer's School on 7 July 1950 to 10 August 1950 at PYONG YANG.

Sent to SIN UI JU on 14 August 1950.

On 27 August 1950, left SIN UI JU for SEOUL, arriving on 2 September 1950.

Dispatched to SO SA on 5 September 1950.

PW escaped from his unit at ORYU DONG on 18 September and surrendered at SU SAK on 21 September 1950.

PW said there were not much damage except 7 tanks which were destroyed by US air attack.

42nd Reg't had fourteen (14) tanks. PW heard that 7 tanks were destroyed by air attack and the other 7 tanks were believed to be missing or destroyed. Reg't had bout 150 SMG.

42nd Reg't's duty was to defend INCHON area.

42nd Reg't was organized at SIN UI JU on or about 7 August 1950. PW's 42nd Reg't moved to SOSA on 5 September 1950; however, the Reg't was compelled to retreat to ORYU DONG on 18 September 1950 due to heavy firing by UN Forces.

PW believed 18th Div Hq was located in SEOUL and Reg't Ho was located at ORYU DONG on 18 Sep 50.

42nd Reg't traveled by train from SIN UI JU to SEOUL. (27 Aug - 2 Sep) They traveled at night only.

42nd Reg't was ordered to reinforce the hill just South of YONGDUNG PO City.

PW heard that 47th Reg't moved into SUWON from CHOLWON on or about 31 August 1950. Believed 47th Reg't was from 18th Div. 47th Reg't organization and strength was same as 42nd Reg't.

Morale was low because most of troops were recent inductees in the Army.
