2. ASSESSMENT:
PW surrendered voluntarily and at time of interrogation, appeared to be in good physical condition. He was very cooperative and of above average intelligence. Information obtained is considered reliable. Recommended for further interrogation regarding military targets North of 38° Parallel. PW has knowledge of underground installations and recent knowledge of former Japanese military installations.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
PW volunteered for the Army at CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦) (0850-1788) on 1 May 46 and received four (4) months basic training. After completion of basic training, PW was sent to KAECH'ON (价天) (0904-1900) and received two (2) months of artillery training. After completion of training, PW was sent to KANGGYE (江界) (0963-2057) and was assigned as 2nd Plt leader of the 14.5-mm AT Rifle Co, 45-mm AT Gun Bn, 1st Div. During PW's stay in KANGGYE, the remainder of the 1st Div stayed at KAECH'ON. PW remained at KANGGYE for approx 10 months. In Sep 47, PW's Co moved to SINUIJU (新義州) (0757-1955) and during the winter the Co moved into the nearby mountains and remained there for approx 2 months cutting fire wood. In Feb 48, PW's Bn moved to PAKCH'ON (博川) (0867-1907) and remained there for approx 11 months, The Bn then moved to CHAERYONG (載寧) (0868-1746) and remained there for approx 10 months. During his stay at CHAERYONG PW was promoted to Sr Lt and was assigned as Company Commander of the 14.5-mm AT Rifle Co. From CHAERYONG, PW's Bn moved to NAMCH'ON (南川) (0943-1737) and joined the 1st Div Hq. PW remained in NAMCH'ON until Jun 50, and acted as artillery instructor. On or about 18 Jun 50, PW's unit left NAMCH'ON and moved to KUHWA-Ri (九化里) (0983-1707) where they met the entire 1st Div.
On 25 Jun 50, the 1st Div crossed the 38° Parallel and advanced to MUNSAN (汶山) (0979-1679) by truck. From MUNSAN the 1st Div advanced by truck as follows:
MUNSAN - SEOUL - SUWON (水原) (1003-1609) - CHANGHOWON (長湖院) (1062-1589)
CHUNGJU (忠州) (1092-1573) - MUN'GYONG (聞慶) (1108-1544)
HAMCH'ANG (咸昌) (1115-1523) - ANGYE (安溪) (1143-1504)
KUNWI (軍威) (1154-1483). Dates of arrival on above locations unknown.
From KUNWI, PW's unit moved to HYORYONG (孝令) (1158-1470) and from there to NAEGOKTONG (1158-1465). PW stayed at MAEGOKTONG for approx one (1) month and surrendered to ROK Army on : 16 Sep 50.

Note: PW estimated the present strength of lst Div as 2/3 of its original strength. PW stated that casualties were high but due to newly arrived replacements present strength of units were almost the same as original strength.

d. Unit Duties:
Duties of PW's unit was to combat enemy tanks and to support the Div.

e. Unit History:
At MUNGYONG (1108-1544) the 4th Plt of the 45-mm AT Rifle Co remained as is and the other three platoons were attached to the following units:
1st Plt attached to 2nd Bn, 1st Arty Regt
2nd Plt attached to 3rd Bn, 1st Arty Regt
3rd Plt attached to Div Hq,

f. Disposition:
1st Div CP was located at MAEGOKTONG (1158-1465) at time of PW's surrender. For location of Arty and CP, see attached overlay. Locations of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Cos of the 45-mm AT Gun Bn were unknown to PW.

g. Communications:
PW's Co kept in contact with Bn Hq by means of runners. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd 45-mm AT Gun Ces used telephones to communicate with Bn H., The 45-mm AT Gun Bn, kept in contact with Div Hq by means of officer courier. The Bn Hq had radios at time of invasion but they were destroyed in the advance to the south. Radios were used for communications between the Inf Regts and Div Hq. Radios and telephones were used for communications between Arty Regts, Arty Bn and Div Hq. Telephones were used for communication between the OPs and Arty Bns. The majority of the communication equipment was of Russian manufacture. Captured US telephone wires were being utilized. Telephone wires were laid on the ground.

h. Intentions:
The 1st Div's objective was to bypass T'AEGU and capture PUSAN. Later this plan was changed and the 1st Div was ordered to capture T'AEGU by 15 Aug 50.

i. Knowledge of Other Units:
During the latter part of Jul 50, PW observed the 13th and 15th Divs in MUNGYONG (1108-1544) Area. PW also observed unknown number of T-34 tanks and BA-64 belonging to an unidentified Tank Regt of the 105th Armored Div. At MAEGOKTONG PW met the Regtl Comdr of the unidentified Tank Regt (105th Div) whom he saw previously at MUNGYONG. (Name unknown).

k. Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of PW's Co was comparatively low because of lack of food and adverse conditions under which they were forced to fight. Troops were ordered to fight to the last man. PW received order (?d. 81) stating that if a unit withdrew from any sector without proper orders the unit CO would be shot.

4. GENERAL:
a. Road Blocks, Mine Fields, and Bridges - No information

b. Food and Ammunition:
Food and ammunition were insufficient. Ammunition was brought from YONGJU (榮州) (1158-1555) during the night, by trucks. Ammunition was cached on both sides of roads and well concealed with grass and trees.

c. Replacements:
PW heard that 600 replacements arrived at 1st Div Hq when it was located at MUNGYONG. At ANGYE, PW observed unknown number of officer replacements. At MAEGOKTONG, PW's Co received 23 replacements (4-5 SK's included). Their ages ranged from 23-35. PW heard that the 45-mm AT Gun Bn received 70-80 replacements. PW also heard that the Arty Regt received 300 replacements and the Inf Regts received an unknown number of replacements. Majority were 13-15 yrs old. Wounded personnel were sent to HYORYONG (1158-1470) where Medical Bn (1st Div) was located. Personnel with light wounds were reorganized after receiving treatment, and sent to the front lines.

d. Captured Equipment:
PW observed abandoned US equipment (M-1s and Carbines) being gathered by the Div Supply Section. PW heard that this equipment was issued to infantry troops and utilized against the UN Forces. PW did not observe any captured US artillery equipment.

e. INCH'ON Landing:
PW heard of the landing after surrendering to ROK Forces. PW stated that the UN Forces will win and that the war will be over soon.
