2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative. Information limited due to short period of military service.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
19 Jul 50 - Inducted at P'YONGYANG (平壤) with 2,000 men. Received basic training during trip to the front. Of 2,000 men inducted with PW, 400 were assigned to 849th Regt and attached to the 105th Armored Div in P'YONGYANG.
8 Aug 50 - 849th Regt (400 men) departed P'YONGYANG by rail with the following equipment in (2nd AT Bn 12 × 57-mm M1943 AT Guns, 5 × Radio transceivers, 4 R (RBS-40) 3 each 9 R Radio Transmitter. All EM carried 7.62-mm Mossin-Nagant M1924/27 Carbine. All officers and MCO's were armed with 7.62-mm Tokarev TT1930 Automatic pistols. There were 10 × T-34/76 tanks, 15 Gaz-51 trucks. All trucks were loaded with 57-mm shells. Arrived SEOUL 23 Aug 50.
24 Aug 50 - Regt departed SEOUL on trucks. Arrived POKSONG-Dong (福星洞) 14 Sep 50.
14 Sep 50 - At POKSONG-Dong they were attacked by aircraft, mortar and artillery. Equipment brought over by PW's unit was never used. Most of the trucks and ammunition was destroyed by air attacks in KUMCH'ON (金泉) and NAKSONG-Dong (洛成洞) Area. Men were constantly under attack by UN Forces.
20 Sep 50 - PW and 19 others decided to make a break to the UN lines.
21 0600 Sep 50 - PW and group saw some American troops and came out of hiding with hands raised.

Unit History:
The Regt was comprised of newly drafted men and was organized in P'YONGYANG, 19 Jul 50.

Intentions:
Mission of Regt was to capture TAEGU via WAEGWAN.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of PW's unit was low because of insufficient training, ceaseless aircraft harassment, lack of food and maltreatment by officers and NCO's.
Effect of US propaganda leaflets was very good.
Read leaflets concerning the Invasion of INCH'ON and SEOUL. Most of the men in the unit were glad to hear of it.
