1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW states that the officers kept information about the brigade from the troops. He claims he didn't even know whether the Brigade was the 16th or the 101st, since he heard both numbers used. PW lacked information on his unit, but he was cooperative and seemed to be of average intelligence. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
7 Jul 50: Inducted into NKPA at P'YONGYANG (平壤).
11 Jul 50: Departed for CH'ORWON (鉄原) by train.
13 Jul 50: Arrived CH'ORWON and received one week of training. The 16th Brigade was organized there.
1 Aug 50: Transportation company and the engineer company departed by train. The whereabouts of the main elements of the 16th Brigade were not known.
o/a 5 Aug 50: Arrived at a point N of the HAN River N of YONGDUNGP'O (永登浦). Transportation company unloaded supplies from the train.
o/a 14 Aug 50: Company had 4 trucks in which they crossed HAN River by pontoon bridge.
o/a 15 Aug 50: Arrived CHOCHIWON. PW's truck ran out of gasoline and he waited for 10 days.
3 Sep 50: Arrived TAEJON. Stayed in TAEJON for two days then rejoined his company, but did not know where the brigade was fighting. Company hauled supplies to supply dumps and infantry Bn or from the dumps to the line, thus PW did not know the exact location of the brigade. PW made one trip from TAEJON to YONGDUNGP'O where the main supply depot was located.
o/a 8 Sep 50: Left TAEJON.
o/a 9 Sep 50: Arrived HYOPCH'ON (陜川), HYOPCH'ON became the supply receiving and distribution point. At that time the main ammunition dump was located in a RR tunnel in HWANGGAN(黃澗). Co hauled the ammunition from HWANGGAN to HYOPCH'ON. Trucks travelled by night only and received no air attacks. In addition to the trucks, S. Korean civilians were used to haul supplies on their backs from HWANGGAN to the front. PW did not know how ammunition was brought to HWANGGAN.
o/a 13 Sep 50: Moved to a point E of SHINBAN NI and 3 km W of NAKTONG River.
o/a 15 Sep 50: Trucks crossed the NAKTONG River over a pontoon bridge and advanced to a point 2 km E of the river. Here PW worked as a cook. The Co hauled ammunition from the river to the line which was located about 7 or 8 km E of the river. Co had only 3 trucks left at this time, on being lost in an air attack.
o/a 16 Sep 50: Company withdrew west of the NAKTONG River to HYOPCH'ON. Brigade withdrew immediately after.
o/a 17 Sep 50: Recrossed the NAKTONG River near the bridge N of SHIMBAN NI to a point 3 km E of the river.
o/a 18 Sep 50: Retreated to HYOPCH'ON. PW and 30 others were ordered to SHIMBAN NI to join a rear guard company.
o/a 19 Sep 50: Moved up a mountain S of SHIMBAN NI and dug fox holes and set up defensive positions.
o/a 20 Sep 50: At 0400 they were attacked by US troops. PW crawled out of his fox hole and surrendered.


Unit Organization and Strength:
Transportation Company had an original strength of 77. He saw one man killed during the river crossing and since 30 men were transferred to a Rifle Company his company's present strength is 46.

4. GENERAL:
PW's company hauled mainly small arms and arty ammunition. He did not know whether this ammunition was used in tanks. He stated that tank companies handled their own gasoline supply. o/a 10 Sep 50 he heard that the tanks in his brigade were not operative because of heavy damage sustained from arty and air attacks.
