2. REMARKS:
PW joined the NK Army in May 1949, and was with the 596th Unit until he joined the above unit.
The 226th Marine Regt was organized in CHINNAMPO about 4 August 1950, where the PW joined the outfit. The unit came to INCHON about 19 August 1950. The 226th Marine Regt was composed of four (4) Bns. Organization of the Bn was as follows: one (1) HMG Co, three (3) rifle Co, and one (1) labor Co. The weapons of the 1st Bn consisted of the following: twenty (20) HMG, thirty-six (36) LMG and rifles. The 1st Bn consisted of about 700 men, and there were five (5) companies in the Bn.
On or about 5 September 1950, PW walked to SEOUL on a visit. On the way to SEOUL PW noticed that all the bridges ever HAN River were destroyed, and that vehicles were being ferried across the river on boats. In the city of SEOUL, PW did not see many soldiers.
On the way to SEOUL on about 5 September 1950, PW passed through the town of YONGDUNG PO and estimated that there were about 600 troops in the town and vicinity.
The food for the 1st Bn, 226th Regt was locally procured. Since about 9 September the food situation for the 1st Bn was not good, and they ate only once or twice a day.
Only 2/3 of the troops in the 1st Bn were armed with rifles. The other 1/3 were unarmed. Each man of 1st Bn possessed about 100 rounds each.
